My gun show experience today

Use to be fun going to gunshows years ago. Prices were actually pretty decent and you could get a good deal if you took the time and effortfor it. Nowadays it sounds like not so much so anymore and I have found other things to do on my weekends.

I agree. When we lived in Tulsa we'd plan the weekend around the Wanamaker show or others that came to town. Nowadays going to a gun show has all the appeal of visiting a bar on St. Patrick's Day ... :rolleyes:

Finding a good deal was like finding a needle in a haystack.
I cant imagine going to a gunshow NOW (considered the market) and finding ANY kind of GOOD deal.

Avoid like the plague
 
Attended a local gun show and found almost everything overpriced. Did you into one of my old friends, and he his old, that made the trip worthwhile. R. V. Burgin was a Marine in World War II and has written a book well worth reading, Islands of The Damned. He was telling me he enjoys going to the gun shows and talking to people who come. If you visit a show in the DFW area and see him, stop and visit because he is a great guy.

What bothered me however at the last gun show I attended, and will be the last gun show I attend, is all of the local retailers I know, selling all the crap out of their garage for massive prices. 22.00 for Wolf 20round box of 7.62x39, 800.00 yugo SKS's all day long, 250.00 91/30s etc etc. My (former) lever action gunsmith was there, selling all of these old f'up'd magazines for pretty high prices. One guy walked up picked up an old worn 20 round mil surp magazine for an AR or M16, looked like 20 rounder from my angle, guy asked how much, my gunsmith said 40.00 I looked at him like ?? and walked away.
To each his own but I will not spend my money with guys who knowingly do this.

What exactly are they doing wrong? Why do you feel you have a right to set their prices? Why do you feel they should not maximize their profits when opportunities are presented to them? Do you complain when the market works the other way and they have to put out massive discounts to move merchandise?

What does being a fellow shooter have to do with it? As a fellow shooter, do you go ahead and pay the original price when market forces bring prices down? Is there some kind of shooter brotherhood that should prevent those that make a living in the business from mazimizing profits?

Went to Cabela's yesterday. nothing left except some odd calibers and .45 JHP.... yeah.... 25 golden sabre .45 JHP for $35 + tax. lol.

It is very unfortunate that your local gun store is not taking advantage of the current opportunities presented to them.

So now these people, the quite literally hundreds of thousands of people, who now see what many of us have seen for a long time are buying firearms. They are paying a premium to do it showing even more determination than they would otherwise. Yet these new people coming over to our ranks every day have no sense? Thats a great approach.
 
Agsalaska, this is a message board. There is really nothing wrong with offering one's opinion on a subject. Much like you have.

My view on Gun Shows is that they have lived up to their name for the last few years...they are someplace to go look at things. That's why they aren't called "Gun Markets."

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with challengin those opinions either. Especially when you see the logic used as one sided and deeply flawed.
 
There's one this week-end in my hometown....I'm going to pay the $4 entry fee just for the entertainment value os seeing all the disappointed faces of people looking for ammo.....cheaper than a movie...

Maximizing profits??? They aren't maximizing profits, they are bending people over. An example that has been mentioned in this thread: Pmags. They are going anywhere from 40 bucks to 80 bucks. I just ordered a bunch of them from Magpul for NORMAL cost.

Now why should I pay 3x (or more) the actual retail value? Seem's to me that's not the brightest move, unless you just have unlimited money to throw around, which most of us do not have.
