Hi good folks,
I've got a Savage 99E in 308 calibre that I've turned into my "homestead carbine" ( I live in the country). I've got a couple of questions. First, do you think keeping a 99E with it's rotary magazine loaded for long periods of time will stress the magazine in any way? Second, any recommendations for a good peep/receiver sight for a 99E? Any help will be most appreciated. Thanks, John

I don't you have any worries on the magazine.

Williams should make a receiver sight for the gun. Check something like Natchez or Midway. They should sell them.

The only peep sight made for the 99's that I am aware of is made by Marbles. They cost over 100 bucks. That makes me sad, because I want one, but I don't know if I want one THAT bad. I don't know if it will fit the 99E or not. I know it will fit a regular 99.

Wow. You have a 99 in .308. I would love to have one of those.

When you say "carbine" does that mean you shortened the barrel?

I would not leave my Savage loaded, but then again, mine was made back in the 20's.

Mine has a twenty inch barrel with blondish wood and nice bluing. I'm sure it's a "newer" 99E. Thanks for the info on the receiver sight. I'm not payin' a $100 either.:) The factory flip-up rear sight will be okay for most situations. I wonder if any folks have a red-dot type scope on any of their lever-actions?

Hi Parker

I have a 99c made in the 60's, LOVE IT!

I mounted mine with a Leupold 3-9x40 VX-II, works great. Good luck with yours, mines a heck of a gun:

Tiger striped Walnut, good bluing, still shoots under 1" MoA.

Hey JoshM14,
It's nice to hear from a fellow Washingtonian. I had a cheapo Bushnell on it but I want something with open sights or maybe a red-dot scope.
jmcc11,
Thanks for the info, I'll check it out.
