Went to the local gun store today, just to see what's going on as far as any new or used guns that came in.
Got into a discussion with the owner. Here are a couple of direct quotes. The phone is ringing off the hook for AR's, and AK's. His Ak's went up $100 bucks from last week when he bought 30 from his wholesaler. And pistols are leaning towards the hi cap mags and larger caliber 9mm through 45, with 9mm out in front for capacity.
They do a good business and have a range also. I know him about 7 years and usually have a talk with him, even though I have only bought 1 gun there. He said his 380's are going in the safe. And he did have about 30 380's out, new and used, so you can probably get a good deal on one right now.
I had 2 -9's on me at the time, my 26 with a 12+1 mag, and my PM9, with 7+1. It's going to stay that way for a while I fear. Look at Maas's email or google "Backwoods", called San Bernardino, has some interesting stuff in there. He comments on a few guys with handguns being able to stop that kind of slaughter and mentions , Remember Garland

Well, I went to the LGs today and bought a new AR and some ammo for it, regular price. I had plenty of time to cruse the counters while there, whole bunch of 9s, 380s,and 45, all at regular prices.

I was in Academy Sports tonight. Only one other guy in the gun area. Both of us in the ammo section. I picked up some .22's.

I did check my safe and every one was in place...AR in front. :D

Not a gun shop, but I went by my local pawn shop yesterday. He didn’t have anything that interested me, but his gun display case was half empty. Two weeks ago it was packed to capacity.

I stopped by my LGS at lunch time today to pick up some ammo and noticed they had quite a few shoppers for that time of day. There were 5 or 6 people just looking at ARs. Normally, there aren't more than 4 or 5 people in the whole store even during peak hours.

I'm glad to see them doing well because it is a well run store with a good selection, friendly knowledgeable staff, and reasonable prices.

I don`t think much of a dealer who has raised the price of his AK `s $100.00. Prices have been falling for some time now and there has not been any import bans to restrict availability. Seems more likely he is taking advantage of a local panic.

Only if you keep letting it. You seem to feel the need to carry two guns; maybe where you live you think it necessary. It is not that way everywhere.

This.
Every time there is a panic there are dealers who constantly feed the fire with crazy talk to get people to spend more money in their stores. They benefit from panics. They benefit from people's fear. So they stoke the fire every chance they get.

Not all are like this, I'm not saying that. But enough are.

I harbor no resentment to a dealer who raises prices when demand increases. In the country I thought I used to live in that practice was considered good business practices.

Besides, if you have not stocked up on ARs, AR lowers, ammo, reloading supplies and other necessities in the past year or 2 I have no sympathy for you. I consider it marketplace Darwinism.

Gee, I read that as the prices from his wholesaler went up $100.

I guess I was wrong.....?

Ah...

Blame the price increase on the wholesaler.

Like I said there is no apparent reduction in supply. As far as raising prices in response to a panic that is not the best way to build customer loyalty and return business.
If there is no reduction in supply, and there is no increase in demand, he will soon be lowering his prices.
