My missouri bullet delivery came today. Ordered on sunday, delivered on wednesday, you cant beat that. I have the 300gr .452 TCFP "silohouet", .452 255gr cowboyswc, and .452 230gr "softball". The bullets all look good. THe only complaints were from my rather small mail lady who had to carry them  . I now have everything together to make some .45 colt loads. My order from grafs came in with dies, auto prime shellholder, colt brass, etc. I also picked up a pound of 2400 for those "ruger only" loads.

I havent decided what powder to use for plinking loads out of it yet though. I have some 700x, bullseye, and power pistol here right now. Obviously power pistol probably isnt the best bet, but I may try something with the 700x. Any idears people?

I just got my order of 2,000 bullets and man it was FAST. From order to my doorstep was about 5 days. Not bad considering I'm still waiting on 2,500 cast bullets from some other company for almost a month now.

Missouri Bullets

I think they are great.
They deliver super fast, quality is top notch.
I am just getting worried about lead levels...
I am going to start another post.

You have no unique or universal on hand?

And- What gun are these gonna launch from?

Ben-- I used up the last of my unique a few weeks ago. I may get some more of it to use, honestly. These are going to be shot out of a brand spankin new 45 colt Blackhawk with a 7.5" barrel. I had some 2400 anyway, and have seen some very nice results, in the "magnum" class of ruger only loads with it, from other people of course. As far as a plinking load, I was hoping to do it with some of the powder i had laying around, but I can always get some more. I found a decent load for 700x, and i do have a large amount of it waiting to be used.

Get clays universal instead of unique. Burns cleaner. And it acts almost identical as far as charge weights, recoil, and velocities are concerned......

Any idea how hard those bullets are?

ljnowell,

I would be careful how fast you push any cast bullet in a Ruger .45. I have fired over 10,000 rounds through my RBH.45 and many of these were "Ruger & TC Contender" only loads.

Hotter, slower burning powders will transfer more heat into the base of the bullet, especially at higher velocities, which is of course, a natural consequence of hotter loads.

I used to cast my own bullets for my Ruger and these were great for plinking, mid-range, and even hotter than normal loads. I would suggest jacketed bullets for anything over 950+ fps.

2400 is a great "hot" powder for the Ruger. My favorite years ago was 296. It produced magnum velocity, was clean, and didn't seem to have as much recoil as 2400, but this is subjective thing.

As far as plinking loads goes, I have burned umpteen' pounds of Bullseye and Unique through my Ruger. 5.0 of BE, and 7.5 of Unique pushing 250 gn hard cast bullets were my favorite loads.

For just a "plinking" round, I'm having very good luck with Green Dot. Nice thing about that is I can load 45 Colt, 9mm, AND 12g shotgun all with the same powder.

Doesn't meter very well ... but for general "throwing lead downrange" one or two tenths of a grain isn't going to make that big a difference.

For the 230g bullets, about 6.2gr of Greendot will give you a nice slow cowboy load ... 750 fps or so. Don't push those 12 binnel's much over 800-825 fps or you'll start to lead up.

trail boss for the 45 LC. easy to find, fills the case well, and burns reasonably clean. I'm seeing it used in all kind of cartridges at this point
