My new baby what do you think?

I can hear the Antis now.

"That gun has no use in civilian population."

To which I say:
Get a LIFE!

You gotta remember I was in the marines. Im used to a M24 sniper system in .308/7.62x51 NATO

Ah, ACBMWM3, I hate to tell you this, but the Marines use the M40 sniper rifle, and have never used the Army's M24. Nice stick, by the way.

Don

I worked with both, but only ever shot the M24

Since those small diameter bullets are supposed to be so good at long range, I have to wonder why the US and British military units use .308 Win, .300 Win Mag and .338 Lapua for long range work. Makes me wonder if they're just good for winning shooting matches but not much else.

Because they didn't have the sense to adopt the .276 Pedersen long ago and got hung up on .30 bore.

The .300 mag and .338 Lapua are in a different class from the .308 though, they are full-length rifle cartridges optimized for heavy high-BC bullets. This isn't a flame... The .308 is a good all around cartridge but, past a few hundred meters it's more efficient if it's necked down a bit. It was too powerful for a standard infantry round and not optimized for long-range. Still put hole in things just fine though.

Sorry for the hijack. I rescind what I said earlier, I trust that a guy willing to pay $5K for a rifle knows how to shoot. And if you've practiced and know the ballistics of the .308, then that's what you should shoot.

Thanks Tweakkkk,
Just like my quote.
To each his own. and .308's what I like. So .308 is what I chose.
Ive seen perfect 1800m shots done with the M40 and M24 using .308 and well thats pretty good to me.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, however (and there's always a however in life) doesn't 1800m = 5905 ft. or 1 miles+ 208 yrds and a foot? Now I know the 7.62x51 cartridge flying a 168gr. projectile at 2800 fps. will physically fly that far but isn't it all but spent by then and won't it start to tumble by then? I thought that was almost exclusively the realm of 338 Lapua and 50 BMG.
I'm just curious. I will say I have hit gallon water jugs at 750 to 800 yrds. with my .308 NM M1A.

I don't exactly remember specs of the rounds used considering each gun is tuned. I was invited to observe sniper school for a week. Besides the Devil Dogs, Rangers and seals all trained together and let me tell you what a sight.
You gotta remember too, these rifles are not out of the box Remington 700's.
most have a McMillan stock, Schneider barrels. etc...

Hey Lencac - I am sure you could hit a 12" target at 50 yards away with your NM M1A & get pretty decent groups with it as well, but we are talking about 700-800 yards baby.

If you were a Marine Where is the "Guilly" wrap

That action still looks like a 700 action from the pic you took; I thought the bolts on those things was more square-ish?

That was the point of my question near the top of this thread. That "AI AW" looks like a Remington 700 action, bolt and custom barrel in an AICS stock. The action looks too short to be a genuine Accuracy International AW rifle?

ACBMWM3, did you buy the rifle from a gun shop, private sale, AI dealer? You obviously believe it to be an AW so hopefully it is but it just looks different from the ones AI advertises and the ones that I've seen. Could you take a close-up shot of the action and bolt?

:)

Nice Rig. I hope to have my TRG set-up like yours soon. However, I still need to get a few things before I am going to post pics of it, things like a muzzlebrake, bipod, and a good piece of glass. I have researched the Accuracy International Rifles and I almost bought one when I purchased the TRG. However, it was a little out of my price range at the time. I am curious, "Did your rifle come with the scope, bipod, etc?"

What scope is that?
