While not chrome plated , I have MY new Bar-b-que gun. When I pick it up in 10days it WILL be my first posted picture(am getting a friend to professionally take picture and post it!), yes it is THAT good! I was in my favorite gun shop looking at the 329PD and considering if it was worth $775 over my 629 Mountain revolver of 89. I saw in the case next to the 329 a strange looking 4" heavy barrel Colt New service completely engraved in "bank note style" , it was marked down from $1500 to $750 sitting on a factory letter stating it was a 1917model made in 1918. On the reverse side of Factory letter was this info: Modifacations by Cylinder and Slide; Trigger job,New bolt spring, new main spring, new latch pin assembly, New front sight installed with platinum wire and dovetail mount test fired and sighted in to hit center at 15yds with ball ammo, chamfer chamber mouths, straighten crane,, install ball detent on crane, eliminate end shake, weld and recut hand, index cylinder chambers, build and install new Douglas barrel , build and install underlug, target crown and forcing cone mods. Cost of modifacations $1084, Custom French Walnut ROY FISHPAW round butt combat handgrips $225, 50% banknote engraving and Royal Blue and Colt letter by custom shop; $975. Gun came with the following extras(looks like) Lou Alessi belt holster, 10 full moon clips, demooner tool, stag grips, original lanyard ring(which screws right in) original main spring and barrel. When I saw $750 price out came the plastic!!!!!oh still my beating heart THE PERFECT FIGHTING PISTOL is now mine(and my heirs)!!!!!!:D :D :D :D :D :

Love the Improved New Service. I have one that was made in 1919 IIRC, with custom grips and a modified front sight. And I agree, can't find a much better BBQ gun than the 1917 or New Service.

You done good. Let me know when the get to tegther is and I'll gladly come and admire it.

I think I'm going to subscribe to this thread so I get immediate notification when those pictures arrive!

Nice find!

Thanks for support guys!! I'll try to take a digital picture and post it before the 10 days, I am gonna go to : Markly's Indoor Shooting Range in Watsonville Calif, where I bought it and shoot a few groups and try to take a picture in store. Later a friend said he wants to do photo shoots of lots of my guns to make his time worthwhile., he said 20 or so would be same price as 1-an hours time at $90 - AND he will post them . So I will flood the forums on that day. I used to take Lieca macro shots of all my guns serial numbers, I got to catch up on last 5 years trades ect. To you central Kali people who asked: Markly's gets lots of estate sales and charges a fair to low price for most things. Interesting things(to me) in last 90 days: Ruger speed sixes in .357 and 9mm under $300. Colt Detective specials under $300-325. Browning 25, and .380 s for $200 , Colt 1903(rough) $135 , about 10 various 3rd generation SAA's mint but $1500up!Ballard and Stevens SS's $700-900(90% schuetzens) , all kinda shot guns including 870's as cheap as $135(16ga with cut to 18" barrel , otherwise clean) . Have quite a few long range target/varmint old mausers in various cals from an estate(I bought a .358Norma 12pound varmint one!) for $450 and dropping! I think they have about 350 displayed gun for sale any one time and they are cheaper than the nearest other stores 50 miles away!

I can't understand how ANYONE can stand that waiting period. I remember when I bought my USP45 full size. I put it on "lay-a-way" on a friday if I remember right. Said, "I'll be in on payday to pay it off"... I couldn't sleep that night, did a lot of "vodoo" economics in my head, found the money (when it's a gun, it's funny how you "find the money") and got her out of lay-a-way the next day. Kim, the owner, thought it was funny how I couldn't even wait 12 days to bring my new USP home.

I would be a stark raving lunatic if I had to wait 10 days to pick up my LEGAL tool.

Oh, and all that above was just so I would get the auto emails for when the pics come out :D.

oh, my.

That is absolutely gorgeous. Sven was right. This is a definite subscription thread. I'm waiting for the pro pics so I can save them and look at them whenever I want to.

Add to list of guns wanted: Custom Colt New Service...

Gordon, you inspired me to get out the closest thing I have to barbecue guns and post a pic - a 1970 set of Colt 1911A1 WWII Commemoratives.

Wow. I can't wait to see the professional pictures. What a find. I would have snatched that up immediatly and had nightmares about what would have happened if I missed it.

Great pictures and beautiful stocks. Believe they are
Herrett's Roper Style. I have two sets on a New
Service and a S&W 25-5. Bought those grips about
25/30 years ago when price was 18.00. Couldn't
stand today's price of 85/90.
