well, after drooling over these beautiful rifles since wednesday we finally got to see what they could do.

i will put this report in several posts as i got lots of good pics.

my bud helz mcfugly from this board, my bro, and i met at the range and set up targets at the 50 yard line and went to work.

i will try at the 100yd line tommorow and update here, but i dont have the best eyes so the 50 will have to do for today.

i thought the next pic was pretty nifty as i managed to catch the en-block clip in the air. notice how even under the full brunt of recoil, the rifle i still just laying on the sandbag. these are some soft shooting rifles for the impressive power delivered by the 30-06 m2 military round.
boy, aint she a beauty!!!!!!!!!!

see next post for target results.

Very nice looking. One of these days when I have fun gun money again......

Bryan,
You are killing me. I have wanted a Garand for over 30 years and finally I can say I am in the process of trying to find one to do what you are doing - having fun while simultaneously honoring those who used one to secure our freedoms. Can't wait to see the targets!!

heres a few target pics.

this one was the first target i ever shot with my new toys. the bottom group was the first ever, i then went up 12 clicks and right 2 clicks and landed right where i wanted it.

this next one i shot at the bullseye the first group, then for the second i just tried to group them towards the bottom of the page, which is tough without a point of aim to go for.
i was pretty happy with the center one though, lots of holes touching.

this next one is my bro shooting his for the first time ever as well.

and this next one proved to be the match winner, he got me 7 hits to 6 hits in the white, the dirty rat.

Picture 343.jpg

and last but not least, my bud helz mcfugly's first group ever with the greatest battle implement ever devised (in the words of ol blood and guts himself)

none of us ever practice with iron sights, but i guess that needs to change. its actually a lot of fun. i think it comes down to the rifleman more when shooting through irons.

all in all, i am absolutly thrilled with the performance of these rifles. they are so easy to shoot accurately, you would never believe you are sending 30-06 military m2 rounds down range.

they just shoot so sweetly, with such mild recoil, its hard to believe the destruction you are dealing out with every round (till you see chunks of mud and rock the size of a football flying up and over the backstop.

we LOVE our new rifles.

happy shooting, bryan.

lol@ killing ya elktrout.

seriously, consider the cmp program.

its definitly the way to go for an m1 garand.

thanks tim.

i gave you some info on my ar and you pretty much trashed it, i just didnt want to go there on these as i really like them.

ya, they are both service grades, i picked them myself.

later.

I was just at the point where I said I have all the guns I want.

Thanks alot!

im gonna give it a good cleaning a should have some much better close up pics a little later

What stocks/ammo?

are those the CMP stocks on them? They look great.

also, what ammo did you use? The stuff CMP sells?

Bryan,

Great shooting for first time with your new gun. Like you, I have not shot with iron sights but a few times in my life; but, I am looking forward to doing so with my Garand when I get one.

i tell ya elk,

they are accurate, fun, and dare i say cheap to shoot with cmp ammo, or reloads.

but the thing that still puts butterflies in my stomach about firing these rifles is simply the amount of sheer power you send downrange with every squeeze vs. the light recoil recieved by the rifleman.

it is absolutely nothing compared to a high powered bolt rifle. it feels lighter than my remington 1100 with light skeet loads. you just wont believe it. there doesnt seem to be any muzzle rise for some reason. in one of the pics above, i was able to capture one of the "ping" clips in mid-air after the shot and you can see the rifle still just sitting there on the bag, unbelievable for having just sent a 150gr object at nearly 3000fps.

i honestly think youve got the bug as bad as i did.

i know its a long ways for you from colorado, but once you do it, its done man, and youve got that baby forever.

for someone really far away like me, and even moreso, like you, its sort of a right of passage to make the trip, and by doing that, you earn it.

you know, another thing i considered, southwest airlines could get you there and back for around 2 bills. lol.

hey elk, heres a little teaser for ya

lol, that was mean!!!!!

seriously, plan the trip.

for me, that trip with my brother will be one of my best memories for the rest of my life.

and long after the trip is in your rearview, youve got this for the rest of yours.

as they say in the gatorade commercial, "just do it"

Great looking rifle, among my favorites.Tell that guy next to you next time rest the stock on the bags, not the barrel,it will mess up accuracy with the barrel resting like that.

I have 860 rounds coming from the CMP,they are kinda backed up though so time wait is a little long. When I used two different lots of HXP in my 1909a3 last time even te date and lot of the ammo changed accuracy and impact area, that kinda surprised me.

Wow, Brian , those M 1's look great and appear to shoot as good as they look! I really like the tiger stripe in those stocks. Well, one of these days....
Congrats on some nice shooters. They're something to sure be proud of.
Buckshot Bill

Bryan,
I have to stop reading the replies to this thread and looking at all the pictures you keep posting. Actually, this morning I found a possible source for a good buy locally. I am waiting for a phone call this week to see if it materializes. If not, I may be making the trip. Like you said, it would be sort of a pilgrimage.

I know the M-1 is not the same as the modern marvels on the market. But, there is just something about "touching" history, even if the gun was made after the big conflict. Or maybe it is Patton's assessment of it that makes us want them. After all, no one seriously considers pearl handled revolvers any more after his remark about them.

I really need to get in on the CMP program. I have a CHL, the store is within 70 miles of me, so really all I need is a membership from an affiliation club or what have you, and I can go handpick one. Well, then there's that whole pesky "money" thing...

Nice rifles. Thanks for sharing.

Yup. For a piece of serious history, they're amazingly fun to shoot. Thanks for the neat photographs.

thanks for all the kind words on my new babies fellas.

and as far as you elktrout. tough titty said the kitty, if you stop reading my post and looking at my pics, im going to bombard your pm box with messages and pics until you are forced toy buy one.

i have pretty much singled you out and am completely planning on tormenting you till you buy one.!!!

just kidding dude.

you seem to have genuine appreciation for the old garands and i would love to hear that you have decided to get one.

now all kidding aside, you deserve to have one man.

if you find one somewhere, shoot me a pm with some pics and i will help make sure you get a keeper (not that your not able to choose a good one for yourself) but i would love to be involved in your purchase when you find one.

bryan.

p.s. i could help you find a keeper for less than 5 bills. let me know.

Thanks, Bryan. I will take you up on your offer. As I look at some in the coming weeks, I'll send you some questions to make sure I get a good value.
