This is the way the auction ad read.
TOTAL TITANIUM MODEL 455 .45 ACP REVOLVER IN SHADOW GRAY. Built on the Taurus compact frame, these have a 4" barrel, fixed sights and weighs only 23 ozs. Comes with a lock, moonclips and Taurus' AND lifetime warrenty. The suggested retail price on these guns is over $600.00. You will never see these guns available at this price again!
So I bid $300.00 and won. While it ain't the prettiest gun I own, it ain't ported neither. (very good english there BullRock) For a .45 it's lighter than a feather.

Your new Taurus would seem to offer a lot of possibilities for being a splendid, big bore "kit" gun, a light-weight but hard-hitting companion to have along when hiking, camping, canoeing, fishing or "woods-loafing" in out-of-the-way settings. For the same reasons, when I'm in places like Minnesota's Boundry Waters region (I try to get there for a couple of weeks each year to fish and canoe), I tote along either my 3" J-frame in .38 Special or my Taurus .41 Magnum snubbie with a 2 !/2" barrel.

You may want to do a search I bought the same revolver in stainless steel with the ports about a month ago, and posted a range report.

Order a set of the hogue rubber grips for it, the tracker compact frame. They are a big improvement over the ribbers, in that they fill in the gap between the trigger guard and the front of the grip.

Hey Blaster

I'm a wood guy. Do you know where I can find a set of smooth wood grips with an open backstrap for this model? I have only tried Eagle Grips so far...

Many thanks

Very appealing revolver there. :)

I like revos of this type in general... smallish, light pieces that fire slow, big bore, low pressure rounds. Yeah, let us know how it shoots, please?

Hey... and handsome IS as handsome DOES! :)

If Eagle Grips offer them for your new gun, I'd say go with them. Got a set of ebony, checkered/oversized grips for my S&W 686 and they are extremely nice. Their customer service was outstanding and I'm literally looking for a new gun to fit with a set of their grips.

Nice fivegun. I too would like a non-ported big-bore Taurus Tracker.

The matte gray finish on your gun is pleasant. I like the Tracker's lines. The only real cosmetic defect to my eyes is the big "TAURUS" logo on the barrel. But hey, if the gun's a good shooter you'll even learn to like its quirks.

(And it isn't as objectionable on a modern DA revolver as it is on, say, the new Gaucho, Taurus's SAA clone, with a big ol' "TAURUS" cartouche etched smack on the barrel. Sorry, a side gripe.)

No One makes wooden grips for the compact frame tauruses.

There is one Guy in Germany that makes them NILS Grips, he has one US importer, and you can order them for $135+ paid in advance and wait a few months to get one.

No thanks.

I bought one from CDNN 2 months ago. Same weapon as in
Bullrock's pictures, no porting. I did use my DMT hones on the b/c gap,
and a file on the ratchet. I think it's a excellent firearm, AND they
are not making them in .45acp anymore. I highly recommend it. As
posted above, the only real problem is that there are no aftermarket
grips except the Hogue, and no wood grips. Mine has a very light trigger
in both SA and DA. Stay away from Winchester ammo, as they have the
hardest primers. I love mine.

I may be able to live with those rubber grippers with winter upon us. I have 26 steller clips, assembled and ready to accompany me to the range tomorrow. One thing I did notice, they are allot easier to assemble then the moon clips on my 625jm.

Range report to follow for anyone interested.

Range Report

Last night I assembled 23 clips in Wincester .45, 230Gr. and took my new Taurus .455 to the range this morning. I set up my target at 25' and used a bench rest firing SA for the first 5 rounds.

What a shock. Rubber grippers and all this sucker is rough! Heavy SA pull and terrible DA. There doesn't seem to be any give and all of the recoil hit directly back in the palm of my hand. It felt like the grip was stuck to my hand and someone was hitting it with a sledge hammer. The accuracy was awful. I may even have put a few on the paper. So after 50 rounds, I gave it up.

I picked up my new Beretta PX4 Storm and blew out the center of the target with 68 rounds. I changed targets (still at 25') picked up my PT92AR and blew the center out of that target again with 68 rounds.

Tauri M.455 Ti anyone????:cuss:

Yikes!

Well, at least it didn't put you out more than ya paid for it. It's a shame that it couldn't produce, but hey - you live, you learn.

Thankfully, you didn't spend any money on nice grips for it! :what:
:D

Hey Six-Gun

I have heard that a small frame .45 is sometimes preferred, however, compared to my Smith 626jm N frame this Taurus (and I own & like Tauri) is a piece of trash...And, I'm disappointed. I was looking forward to having fun shooting this.

You're right Six-Gun I did not pay too much for that midas muffler...;)

I've looked at a few of the .45 Taurus revolvers lately.
Now it's no secret that I like Taurus revolvers, but I have noticed some issues with the .45acp models I have seen.

#1 They were all totally devoid of any lubrication. I guess since they don't need to oil staionless for rust prevention during shipping they don't bother to lube them at all. With proper lubrication and some use the trigger pulls ought to shape up nicely.

#2 They must only produce .45s on Mondays & Fridays. Out of about 7 or 8 I have handled (not fired, just handled), at least 5 had a front sight that was noticably askew.

#3 I have a really nice 2" non-ported blue steel .44 Special and it shoots great even with some rather stout .44 Special loads. I would not however relish shooting it if it was equipped with a titanium frame!

Repeat after me;

Airweight is great,
But only for a thirty-eight.
If the bore starts with a four,
The frame needs something more.

I Like that. It even makes me feel a little better than I did...Thanks:D

I thought it's just have the Ti coating like the P99, not the lightweight version. Put some gloves on I suppose that might help.
