I've always had a huge intrest in old west shooting, but finally the wife agreed, and were getting each other our Christmas/anniversary gifts early this year. We're spending about $1500 on each other. So shes getting a big diamond ring, and I'm gonna get two of these.....

And a rig like this to carry them in...........
http://www.hastingsholsters.com/cowb...on/the-diablo/

There will be one gun tied low on the right hip, and the other one at a 20 deg. cross draw angle on the left side, slanted across my abs. And yes I will be using my open carry privilege in Tenn. and carry them around with me. Just for the hell of it. So good rig? And how many shell loops should be on the back? I was thinking 20 .45 colt loops, and 6 12 gauge loops for the Mossberg thats always in the truck with me. I'll be open carrying mostly in the woods and out on our farm, but if I have to run into the feed store or grocery store in town, I probably won't drop my rig.

I think you'll not get the reaction you hope for....here or in the feed store.

The only reaction I'm looking for is to make sure that the components selected are good high quality models, to carry and to get started in CAS with. Everyone around home open carries, its slightly back woods. Like 41 people in my senior class, mostly gravel roads, well water, and mining country kind of back woods. I'm looking for comments and opinions on the pistols and rig, not really the open carry thing. I apologize if I came off as an overbearing, typical young guy jack a**, as that is not, and never was my intention. My apologies to everyone on the board.

I don't know about these guns in particular, but I have asked about other Uberti's on other forums when considering buying one of them versus a Ruger. Pretty much the consensus was that the Uberti is a decent range gun, but might not be the best choice for the rigorous nature of CAS shooting.

I would post the links to the answers I got, but they are on other forums and I am not sure if that is allowed here. I have already had my IP address blocked on another handgun forum for linking to another forum and I don't want that to happen here.

Given you'll likely be shooting reduced power loads for the CAS stuff and only occasional full power loads for defensive practice or the occasional varmint these guns will last a long time. And if anything does go wrong Uberti seems to have a good rep from all I've seen for repair and keeping parts around.

Love the rig you're looking at. From my reading on holsters the only concern for regular carry would be to get holsters that are lined. I gather there's less tendency for the face leather lining to hold grit and dirt like the rough inner leather surface does on unlined holsters.

I'm still looking to get my own rig for CAS. Do you mind letting me know either here or via PM how much this rig is going to cost you? I don't see any pricing on the website.

Uberti makes a pretty good gun but remember that all single actions, yes even Colts, can benefit from a good action job.

Having said that, I can thinkl of several models I would pick before I chose that Remingtion. You want something even more original, take a look at the Uberti RM conversion at Cimarron or even the 1872 open top, both in 44 Colt. You can get them in 44 special, 45 Colt or even 45 Schofield.

I have both as well as USFA's, which I dearly love, but won't trady my Colts for all the tea in china.

However, if your set on that Remingtion, well you'll enjoy it.

Good luck

Perhaps I lucked out but I found that my own Uberti 1858 clones have delightfully light triggers that rival my "treated" S&W's. I don't know if I would want them any lighter than they are. They may not all be like that or perhaps the previous owner had them done. They came from an estate sale so there's no way to find out.

I need to get them and shoot them so I can see what kinda work they need, but will probably have the actions cleaned up, and see if they need anything else to feel comfortable to me. Thanks for all the advice guys. I just wish I could get them right now, not have to wait till I go on leave again to handle them.

Not really a single action guy but I here good things about Uberti. ALso that is a damned goodlookin hunk of leather.

As to the open carry, there is nothing like a good belt to carry a gun comfortably

What part of TN you in? Hope I see you out here carrying those around one day :D

Just remember "No transporting loaded firearms on TWRA Wildlife Management Areas" Including North Cumberland WMA - New River Unit (Brimstone)

Its nice to see some good comments on here, thanks for all the responses, and I'll remember the TWRA thing. And thanks for the link to the gun review. I really can't wait to handle my pistols and wear my leather.

We expect pictures of you wearing them or there'll be a call for banning yer butt! ! ! ! You can't tease us like this and then not follow through.... :D

It's all on order already or when do you expect them?

July 15th I'll be ordering the leather, Aug 1st I'll be ordering the guns. I won't be able to wear or use them until Dec., but I can get my wife to throw on some tight jeans and get some good pics wearing the rig. And she knows how to shoot. She does good with my double action 5 shot .38 special. Don't ask me what brand it is, it was a hand me down from my Papa, but shes good. I'll make sure to post some gun rig on wife pics as soon as they come in. And I'll get some pics of my open carrying in Dec.

Have you looked also at the Uberti Schofield replicas in .45LC? I ask as I have been wanting the same as you, and the Schofields are more unique and I think also quite beautiful. Besides the top break, they also work with the HKS #29 speedloaders.

Either way, I think your plan sounds excellent.

I looked at everything I could find made by Uberti, and I thought the Remington 1875 Armys were the best looking guns of the bunch. I just really like the looks of them. Thanks for the suggestion though.

If you haven't hefted one of those Remigtons for balance maybe you should. I always liked them to, but the balance of a Colt SAA/copy is superior. Another good choice like someone mentioned, is the S&W Schofield copies.

I have a matched ,consecutive pair of .357 1890's and a non-consecutive pair of 1875's in .45 Colt.I also have a .357 Thunderer, and a matched set of 1873 Colt clones [New Dakotas] just to name a few.As to ''feel'' and ''balance'',don't let anyone tell you what you will like,as that's a subjective judgement, and entirely up to you.Personally I like the looks of the 1875 Remmies the best, with the 1890's about tied with the Colts. For balance I give the 51/2'' 1890's the nod,but again, that would be up to you.My Dakotas have never failed me since I installed Belt MTN. Locking Base Pins, but the y used to spit the stock pins out with regular, stock pins.I blame the two stage import ''push to safe'' pins. At any rate all the depenability of all the current clones is about on a par, nowadays so find what fits your hand, and what you like.

I think if you can get in and out of a car or truck with the right gun 'tied low',you'll be doing good,I can't doit very easily.
For CAS,shotshell holders in the back would be very very slow on the firing line, nobody Iv'e ever shot with does them in the back.
Bu,having said that, you're gonna LOOK GOOD with that gear !!!!!
