My RockIsland 1911 out-performs USP 45

I have to say I'm not surprised by the results plastic gun vs. metal gun. Plastic guns always seem like they're not as reliable in returning to battery. I'd like to know where you got the RIA1911 for $289??? Was it used? I've seen them @ $399 for half a dozen years now.

I have heard some reports that the metal on the RIA1911's is soft though.. I think I remember reading a thread a long time ago where one either exploded or the slide broke.

All else is stock, including the cheap, 2-piece barrel.

Regarding the AO1911, is the barrel truly cheaply made? The BHP after all has always come with a two piece barrel.

I only own one 1911-type pistol, a Kimber Custom Defender II. It has had exactly one FTFeed(Amerc case). Have you tried differnt types of ammo in your USP? Not all ammo is created equal. Your USP may have a tight chamber or a bad mag. I wouldn't give up on it yet. IMHO, the RIA's are a very good pistol at a very good price. If you have a good, reliable shooter, enjoy. I bought a Colt Python a few years ago, so I can't say anything about spending a lot of money on a gun. Good luck.

YOU shot better with the RIA, which you've had a lot more practice with. Give the H&K some time.

Don't sell the USP, just practice with it more and get used to it. I've found handguns to be a matter of personal fit as much as anything else, and it often takes time to get used to a new one.

I own a RIA 1911 - it's an excellent value proposition. Having said that, the USP is a very well-built pistol and I find HKs to check all the boxes ergonomically.

i dont know why anyone would buy an HK when they cost $900, have mags that cost $60-70, if you can find them, and offer performance, reliability and durability no better than a $500 glock or xd.

Agreed. I love my USP compact .40. It's my "go to" handgun for HD. I spent a little over $800 for mine. While I bought the HK hype once all of my other polymer purchases have been Glock or XD.

Finally, someone else said it.

And btw, I think his failure to return to battery issues were that he did not clean the gun before he shot it. If you notice, he made the comment that it had a white silicone grease all over the metal parts. That may have been a hinderence to slide movement, hence the FTRB.

Either that or somebody comes along and says search!!!

You can't win...

I'd rather have somebody resurrect an old thread.

Agree with the price point vs out of the box functionality of the weapon. I pay that much for anything I better not have to do anything with it to make it work 100%. I was a little irritated to have to smooth the grip on my Kel Tec, and that was all of $250.

However, I doesn't appear to have been mentioned that he tried anything other than Wolf steel cased stuff. Get some WWB and some UMC to try it out. Might be surprised.

I'll take it off your hands if you don't want it.

And 'cause I'm such a nice guy I'll only charge you $100 US for the service.
