I'm looking at trading my stainless SA Loaded Champion with NS for an HK USP 45 that has about 1k rounds through it which should make for a smoother trigger pull and racking, Should I go through with it? I do carry concealed (IWB) and like 1911's for that aspect because of how thin they are, but a USP .45 has a higher capacity and I think I would just feel more reliability with it since 1911's can be finicky. My hands are not huge but big enough to grip a USP as I've handled one before, and they don't seem much thinker than the G30 I carry IWB and they do make IWB's for full size USPs, I just wanted to hear some opinions on what I should do?

SO your main reasons for trading are capacity and the other pistol being more broken in?
I would think the stainless SA would stand up better in the long run as far as finishes go. Both are good pistols though.

There is too much of ME inside my waistband to be comfortable with a bulky gun like a USP .45. It is a good shooter, although too big for my hands.

Keep the Springfield, if yours is finicky call them and they'll fix it for you.
The HK is a great gun but it's no 1911. IMO they're too big and thick, have crummy triggers, and capacity isn't everything.

A very generalized statement. Is your SA unreliable? Although heavier, it is much more slender and flat and has a much better trigger pull than HKs are reputed to have.

The H&K would offer you the ability to not have to carry condition 1. I am a proponent of pull the gun out and pull the trigger. Fewer things to do means less to go wrong.

From a guy who had a stainless USP .45 and has 1911's, I'd keep what you have. USP's are reliable and reasonably accurate, but the ergonomics just plain suck and you're paying a premium for the name. HK makes the nicest $400 handgun around, and sells it for $900.

I have both and shot the HK a couple of USPSA matches. All I can say is that I would go to battle with the HK and my AK for that matter. But, I am upgrading my Springfield .45 1911 for shooting competition. I found the HK big and the trigger a bit long. I used to shoot my M&P9 but now my kid kinda "adopted" it now that he is shooting with me.

HK is my favorite weapon, it's accurate, rugged, and has never failed - I dont know about the $400 gun thing but I think its way too big and the 1911 for that matter for concealed carry - at least in FLorida where I live. My concealed carry is a XD-9subcompact which I really like.

Sounds like you don't trust your champion cause you heard they can be unreliable, is that right? My experience that a 1911a1 works as well as any gun available, if you start adding all the different "upgrades" is a good way to make a gun unreliable, wiether it is by a kitchen table gunsmith or a semi custom/production/custom gun maker. I have a GI champion that just works. your HK will no doubt work just as well. choose the one you are more comfortable with.

As you pointed out, the 1911 is easier to carry concealed due to it being much thinner than the USP. As far as reliability goes - if your 1911 isn't reliable just fix it so that it is reliable. Problem solved.

My springer fired rounds my buddies USP .45 wouldn't, and it did so with better accuracy due to not having the "duty weapon crappy trigger" syndrome.

USP's are good service guns for folks who carry firearms as a profession and have to "qualify" once or twice a year at a maximum imo.

The 1911 is a shooters' gun for folks that buy their ammo by the thousands...every few weeks.

Get the USP, get an LEM trigger installed (should run about $60) and don't look back.

I sold my Kimber TLE Custom 2, I've still got my USP .45 (I would however buy my Kimber back if the opportunity arose).

1911's are perhaps the most over-rated gun of all time. They're amazing pistols but no where near the be all, end all everyone makes them out to be. That said, while the USP45 is perhaps my favorite handgun, it is not intended for concealed carry. The 1911's slimness will be better taken advantage of in that sense. It you really liked the HK go for the USP45 compact, otherwise getting you're not going to have anything carryable if you trade your 1911.

Also to whoever said you can't carry condition 1, you are wrong. They have manual safeties and decockers all in one, the ergo's are far better than the 1911 along with the features IMO.

They have manual safeties and decockers all in one,

Yep, and sometimes, you'll accidentally decock it in the middle of a string of fire.

No, you won't, unless you don't know the way to properly fire a pistol. Why would you hold your left thumb vertically up??
