So the other day I was at my local gun shop and saw something behind the glass that called out to me. It was a Tanfoglio Witness compact in .45acp and the price was $250. I asked to see it and when the manager walked by and saw me looking at it he told that they could do $225 if I wanted it. Well I took him up on the offer and brought the gun home, my plan was to make it a project gun and do a complete refinish.
The gun came with three eight round mags and original case, it seemed to be in good working condition with a good barrel. The only real issue with the gun is that whoever had it before me apparently tried to remove the original finish and didn't do a good job.
A buddy of mine lent me his Blue Wonder bluing removal kit so I figured I'd see what I could do with it. I went to work on the gun and after a couple hours I got some fantastic results. I used the Blue Wonder removal stuff, some steel wool, and Flitz to get the results you see below. I'm still not 100%, there are still some places I need to touch up but I couldn't be happier with how it looks now!
