For back ground I bought this Model 87 Ultralight Ithaca 20 gauge from a Las Vegas police auction with out the 13" barrel it was built with as an " other firearm" years ago. The serial # has an HG suffix which means it was a Stakeout AOW pistol when built.
After consulting with experts on the NFA forum here and studying the Federal and States I travel in laws I decided to not cut the deer slayer 25" Fully rifled barrel down to 13" as I planned , nor the 25" deer slayer smooth bore back to 18" as planned, even tho I do have a lathe to easily do do. These barrels are heavy walled for a shot gun and have some weight to them .the 25" length is much quieter than a 18" 20 gauge I have and Dogtown Tom talked me out of trying to game the law with the 13" rifled tube idea.
The 25" barrels greatly reduce the recoil and up chuck in this pistol format, it actually isn't bad off hand and allows me to lay the barrel on any rest I can find. I am getting a Blackhawk shotgun sling to snap on the swivels and let it hang from around chest with out hitting shoes , and able to bring it out in a two handed Weaver stance with sling tension as an aid, when set up correctly.
The Fully rifled barrel can shoot my 275 grain Hornady SST sabot loads at the full 1800 fps with the vintage Weaver 1.5 shotgun scope which has about 10" eye relief in the old Redfield Ithaca Deer Slayer mounting rings. I can change to the walnut shoulder stock in a couple minutes ! The Holosun 507 C has a great dot reticle I have been playing with on the smooth bore barrel, and the Olight Baldor with it's contrasting green laser is real handy for critters at night, which is what I designed this for .
