My wife and her gun views

CAr jackings here in New MExico probably went down 300% when the CCW took effect, because you use to see them all the time on the loco )local) news, but never hear about them now. Except one or two foiled by someone shooting the jacker!

The threat of someone "just snapping" is far greater when they are behind the wheel then if they just happen to be carrying a firearm.

The threat of a madman behind the wheel of an automobile is just as dangerous and far more likely than a madman on the loose with a gun.

40 of 50 states are now shall-issue. One can hardly say it is against the norm for people to carry. Indeed, the states that DON'T allow law-abiding citizens to arm themselves are conspicuously in the minority.

There have been three incidents in Utah in the last 8 or so years where a dude (or in one case a woman) just snapped and killed people they didn't know in a public place. ALL THREE were committed by immigrant refugees with histories of mental problems. NONE were by permit holders.

IF we line in a nation with 11,000 homicides a year or so, ask her to add up ALL of the high-profile columbines/amish schoolhouses/postal incidents/whatever she can think of EVER, and add the total number of people killed. If she could hit 200 I would be surprised. That's 200 EVER, against 11,000 ANNUALLY of gang violence, domestic disputes, and drug trafficking. (I know there are more than that,) The point is, she is concerned about a tiny problem. She is unwilling to face a more practical reality of where violence really is.

I gotta ask...how on earth are you getting a CCW in So Kal?
I'm only stationed in California. I'm a North Dakotan in all legal aspects. I'm getting my CCL there so on the drive to and from from CA to ND, I can carry in at least some of the states. As for a California CCL...forget it. I live in SD County. Nuff said.

Put me in touch with your wife. Tell her to send me a list of questions and concerns and I'll do my best to answer them. I've been a gun owner for years, I was one even up in New York City.

this whole 'wild west' busness is so old and tired.

I like to say 'yea, and at the gunrange, where EVERYONE has guns, fully loaded, saftey off, ready to fire, we are constantly getting mad at eachother and shoot eachother all the time'

it makes them stop and think that at a shooting range, there is NOTHING stopping the person in the next lane from intentionally turning and shooting someone else over whatever is bugging them...except for the fact that most people are decent people, and when they really have in their hands the ability to kill another person, the DO NOT DO IT

How in the hell did the world work in the 1950s???? I mean seriously all those terrible gun owners that could just buy a firearm and carry it without any legalities?? What a terrible time to be alive. hahaha

I think you did well.

We don't have the option as law-abiding citizens of "sticking it to the man" and carrying illegally. Therefore, we must work within the system.

Secondly, laws and policy should only be made on the basis of what someone -has- done. Policy making based on the possibility that somebody might do something is creating punishment where there has been no crime.

Yeah, interesting how people get bent out of shape over the President's foreign policy of "Pre-emption", but a lot of those same people don't have a problem with turning the same basic policy against American citizens.
