i know it is sad and i will probaly never hear the end of it, but i have an obligations to let everyone know about the incident. i will just say that i am glad that it broke at the range and not while defending my self or my family.

here is what happened. i got to the local indoor range and loaded up my mags. i fired 10rds no problem, next magazine fired 5 more noproblem, tried to fire another round and the trigger was not working, totally inop. so i unloaded the weapon and cleared it to try to diagnose the problem.
i then tried to disassemble it, but with the trigger being inop i couldn't do so. so with the slide locked back to the rear, i looked down inside through the top and i could plain as day see that the metal bar that runs along the right inside of the frame had broken away from the metal piece that works the trigger.

so i have written them a letter that will go inside the box to ship it back once i get in touch with sa. i tried to call but they were closed for the day all ready, so i will have to wait till monday if i have the time. i just hope they can throw in a set of night sights that would really make my day and give me new found confidence in them.

it is crazy that the first problem i had out of my service model wasn't a malfunction but an actual break of a part.

i will try to take pics, and they might come out they may not but i will try if i get time.

I wont be a guy that rubs the "you should have gotten a Glock" in your face by any means, BUT, if its a Glock thats a $10.00 user changeable part and it wouldnt take 5 mins to get that up and running.

I know, that does not make it better and I know its going to suck while your gun is off to the hospital, but good luck with it.

Keep us updated on how it goes possum
i sure will.

not this early on in the thread!:D

Every gun of every make and type can break at any time (some more than others). Even with a good design, and quality control it's inevitable when so many are manufactured. You were just unlucky. Or lucky if you get those night sights... :)

i wrote them a letter that will probally bring a tear to thier eyes, so i think it will work, but even if not a few extra mags or a trigger job would do ok too!:D

I may not be a XD fan, but I hate to hear about anyone's defensive pistol breaking. True, it wasn't during a defensive situation, but to have a failure like that just means you have to dig into your arsenal so hoefully you have another pistol you can depend on while your XD is down for repairs...good luck ;)

this might sound crazy but i have yet another xd the sc in .40 and i guess it will be filling the gap, and since i don't have a light to punt on there that will fit, my surefire handheld light will do the trick i guess.

Keep us up to date on how SA handles customer service. I would like to own a glock but don't like the lack of safety, especially for concealed carry. The XD has an extra safety on the grip that would prevent accidental discharge if the trigger was somehow pulled. If I was able to carry the gun in a proper holster OWB then the glock would be just fine.

That in it's self would make me reconcider a whole brand.
It's gonna sound weird but I don't trust to many poly guns. But to be fair this is the first i've ever heard of anything like this with the pleathora of of units on the streets today.
Straight from Springfield, straight to the traded section at my gun store. If any thing ever happens to my Glock it'd be on the chopping block the next day.

Yup, cant say that Ive ever had a glock do that!:neener:

just a thought while your XD goes in for surgery!

On a serious note: Thanks for letting the forum know of a potential problem that could happen to any XD owner.

Come on!

All brands of pistols break! Even Glocks!

Common sense would tell you that gun was caused by a kaboom which was more than likely caused by reloads.

  It was not a faulty part, in Possums case it were a Glock they would be more than happy to send him the replacemnt trigger bar free of charge.

As for breakage yes anything can break

SA has good customer service. I bought a 1991 loaded with nite sites and a matte fininsh.

It was pricey...For me...But they turned it around in a week and half....

However. My sig 229 is my apartment defense piece.

I have trust issues with things that are not functional in the past.

This is why am going through a divorc:neener: e..

Even though it has nothing to do with what caliber your XD is, I hear about .40 cals breaking alot more than anything else.

I just read in another forum (in a thread asking which to get XD or Glock) that a poster noted that a few years ago all the hard core IDPA shooters in his club were using XD's but as of today, not one of them still does... they've all gotten rid of their XD's due to reliability issues. I'm sure plenty of XD's do run well, but I was surprised to hear that XD's have had so many reliability issues.

On a recent gun buying trip I was considering another Glock (already have a Glock 29) but this time a G27, or an XD 40 Compact, and also looked at the new S&W M&P 40 Compact. Once the M&P got into my hand I knew which one I was going to buy. Very low bore axis (XD felt too high & bulky in the slide to me), ultra sculpted feel-in-the-hand (Glock is, well, blocky feeling), excellent reviews from those who've bought the M&P... I was sold. SO far I have around 400 rounds through it... 180 gr. Speer Gold Dots... for a small and light weight 40, the gun is amazingly soft shooting (due to springiness of frame and super low bore axis), very accurate, stone reliable so far, all USA made, and S&W's service/warranty is second to none. Just something for you to consider as a possible option. Parts are available to have on hand as well. Here's are some links of interest, a new forum for MP guns and S&W's info:
