I was at the range today to shoot my new Springfield Loaded .45 and the wilson combat mag broke! The plastic piece at the bottom broke off and when that happens the mag can go higher up then it is supposed to (scratched the mag catch inside my new gun ) rendering the mag useless. Anyone out there have this problem or think I should bother getting a hold of wilson for a new mag?

Johnny

By all means contact wilson combat & give them an opportunity to correct the problem. That is the only fair thing to do. If my name was on that magazine, you can bet your sweet bippy i'd replace it--in fact i would send you two new ones & a letter of thanks for purchasing my product.

every company produces a bad product every now and then. the mark of a good company is their ability to own up to it and make it right. i bet they work it out for you.

I'd be amazed if Wilson doesn't make it right. Call them on Monday.

Do report your customer service experience in this thread so we all can see what Wilson does/does not do for you.

Unless they’ve recently changed their warranty policy Wilson wanted magazine problems handled by the original retailer that the magazine was purchased from. I had a direct discussion with a Wilson:banghead::cuss::mad representative/employee they were less that cooperative. There are in my opinion better magazines being marketed and I’ve changed to those.

Hangingrock I agree! I do not want to trust my life to a mag that is rendered useless when an easily breakable piece of plastic of the bottom of the mag breaks. I started using the 2 all metal mags that came w/ my springer....so far so good. I just hope they don't yank me around. If I get one back I will only be using it at the range...never for carry! :scrutiny:

I am going to send the broken clip to Wilson Combat on Monday per their request. See what happens...I am paying for shipping though
As an alternative to plastic, Wilson's magazine can be purchased with either a steel or aluminum base pad. They also offer these pads as parts. You may want to ask them about one since you are sending it in.
Regards,
Greg

Stuff breaks, fix it or replace it and move on. You can obsess about "what if it happened when ...." but its a counter productive waste of energy. Sounds tactics always has a "plan B" and endeavors to avoid a single point of failure catastrophe.

The reality is stuff breaks with a "bath tub curve, highest failure rate when new, then levels off to low failure rate during the operational lifetime, until wear causes end of service life increase in failure rate. That and getting familiar with your new gun is the main reason for the 200-300 round "break in" or "function check" people are so fond of.

As I always say "if you never broken a gun, you just aren't shooting enough!"

I love the steel low profile bases they offer, I have one on my 47D.
I really do need to sit down and order a few spare Wilson mags, They are all i trust in my 1911's.
When i bought my RIA CS Officer i picked up a Stainless Kimber mag with the gun for $20.
After 100 rounds i started having issues with feeding, So i replaced in innards with a Wilson spring and follower and its worked 500 flawless rounds now.

IMO its the follower they use that makes them so good.
Out of no-where ill mention Kahr makes mags that compare as well as Wilsons imo.

So i just checked my e-mail and have a package coming from wilson combat on Feb. 2nd. Hope its the mag w/ a metal base plate not another plastic one. In all honesty I did not know they offered metal base plates. A question...why would wilson sell a mag w/ a plastic base plate when they have a metal base plate available? Seems odd to me especially when I spent good money on one and broke it quickly due to the plastic piece. Makes them look bad in my opinion. I had purchased the wilson mag at Cabelas and noticed the last time I was there they were not selling the wilson mags anymore? What other mags are out there that are dependable and have a low rate of failure?

There are several mags other than Wilson (which I do use as well) that are good. I use mostly Nighthawk Custom mags - I normally obtain them 6@$100.00. I also use Checkmate mags - theses are just as good.

Of course, for carry mags I normally use Tripps.

I have only ever had trouble from SA and Kimber mags. They were gifts and are long gone....

PS: Checkmate mags has done group buys before - so .....

I got a new 7 rnd mag in the mail today. It has the same plastic bottom, so I might order a metal floor plate. Not a bad experience w/ wilson combat considering it was taken care of in less then a month.

I've had two mags from wilson fail, but with the lifetime warranty they replaced them right away, covered shipping both ways. Best company to deal with.
