Nagant vs Enfield .303

Selling Enfield No4Mk1* with reloading gear here, great shape. Action is easy to use. Had both Mosin Nagants and Enfield, Enfield is a better rifle, twice the mag capacity, and if you don't do the Mosin Cure to the chamber, the action sticks HARD with surplus ammo. Mosin is a good reliable durable peasant's rifle, and I wouldn't mind getting another M38, but the Enfield is better for shooters.

My Finned Tula 91/30 outshoots my Sako M39 and my No. 4 Long Branch outshoots them both. Heck all three are capable of better accuracy than I am, so I have no complaints at all.

I have a love hate relationship with my Mosin...so I'd go Enfield. My Mosin is pretty much as accurate as any other milsurp I own (except the K31) and it's cheap and fun to shoot. However, it's mechanical issues (read sticky bold) put me in last place at my most recent Military Vintage Rifle Competition! It does slow fire just fine, but rapid fire is another beast altogether!

Classicarms.us has Enfields in stock right now. I've dealt with them several times in the past, and they're good people! Just be prepared to clean a TON of gunk out of the rifle. I've cleaned up over a dozen milsurp rifles and the Enfield had more crud in it than all the other rifles combined!

In pure mechanical term the slight advantage would lie with the Mosin, due to it's cock on closing frontal lugs feature. Of course such an "advantage" is slight in the extreme. The Enfield has better sights also.

I think you have that the other way around. The enfield cocks on closing making it significantly faster then any bolt action that cocks on opening such as mausers, and especially mosins (which have a small bolt handle giving it less leverage).

Neither action are particularly strong, at least not compared to a mauser 98 action.

Lee-enfields are the superior rifle hands down when compared to mosins.

I prefer the Lee Enfield over the Mosin Nagant hands down but the Finish Mosin is a horse of a different color than a Russian or Warsaw pack country. It is the only one that comes close to a Lee Enfield.

I have both with the LE in a recent buy. I have no .303 ammo as of now and can t say how it shoots. THe MN is no brainer a great rifle . AMmo is quite plentiful even to this day. I can get 2-3 inch grps at 100 yds easy if i do my part.

The Finn M91's are also very nice. They're a longer, leaner rifle based on the original M-N. They saw a lot of service in all of the Finnish wars. The biggest differences are that the M91 has the old style sights and a much thinner barrel.

I would go with the M91 or the M91/30 the great balance of these rifles makes the Enfield feel like holding a shovel to me.
Accuracy with each rifle will differ with different ammo, but my worn pitted bore 1916 Izhevsk M91 holds 2nd place to the K31.
