I know rifles and handguns are for different applications but I've always thought in terms of one or the other as being half of a pair.
My own pairs are:
- 10/22 deluxe sporter and a 6.5" mkII
- Marlin 1894cs and Smith & Wesson 6" 586 (I know...I know...single actions are more traditional but IMHO the Smiths are more practical. I bet ol' Wild Bill woulda had one if they were around back then )
- Marlin 1894s or 336 and Smith & Wesson 6.5" 629 Classic DX
- (When I become king) I'll add an M1 Garand to my 1911 and the list'll be pretty much rounded out for me.
An 870 or Ithaca 37 would ice any of the cakes listed above.
Interesting to see other folks' take on the concept.
Colt Single Action Army Revolver in .44-40 and a Winchester lever action (pick a model, any model) in the same caliber? If you're in the mood for a buffalo hunt, ditch the Winchester in a saddle scabbord and grab a Sharps.
All the previos are wonderful and exciting, I have been longing for a .357 lever gun for ages but around me they are out of my price range bc of cowboy action shooting. They also do not stay in the store long.
However, shouldn't we consider the designated use of the combo. For instance if going to war or defending your home or bugging out the AR-15 / M-4, 1911A1 combo is excellent and my choice but in addition I would carry a22 pistol or if kicking about the woods for small game with a .22 maybe a mansized pistol along for the big bad evil two legged animals we all know frequent such areas.
