The best Rifle/Pistol combo of the same caliber?

TheLastBoyScout, I have to KINDA disagree with you. I think that in a SHTF situation a 357 or 44 combo would be adequate FOR SOME PLACES. In an urban environment or somewhere where the shots are most likely under 100 yards both would be good. Both of these rounds pick up a lot of power from a rifle length barrel. Of course if you live in an area where 125+ yard shots are common then you are VERY right.

well, there are two different combos that I would be interested in.
Modern style combo: Beretta 92F and Beretta CX4 Storm.
not just ammo compatibility, but magazine compatibility, too. also, 9mm is cheap, and I've got loads and loads of it lying around. not great for really long shots (more than 150yds, I would think), but it would be great in an urban setting, and, of course, cheap fun at the range. only requires purchasing one gun, since I already have the 92

Classic combo: Marlin lever action in .357mag or .45Colt, and (for my tastes) an S&W Double action in the same caliber.
requires purchase of both guns, since I have neither. not as quick to reload. cartridge is much more powerful, however. ammo is more expensive. overall purchase price of the firearms themselves would be cheaper, methinks, though a bit more expensive to feed, especially in .45Colt.

Olympic Arms makes a couple of versions of the AR-15 type rifle that uses Glock magazines. One is made in 9mm and another is made in .40 caliber. You can have an AR-15 type blowback operated rifle and a good Glock pistol that actually use the SAME ammo and magazines. It's something to think about and consider if you trust Olympic Arms quality.

PS90/5-7, huge ammo capacity, light weight, compact, maneuverable, easily silenced, good penetration

Win 94/Army single action in 45 colt...for that old time feel

high point carbine/pistol combo in 40 S&W...for the dirt cheap route

a lever gun/revolver in 500 S&W would pretty sweet. Now if we can just get someone to make a lever in the 500 for the commercial market...here's hoping

while I'm wishing and making stuff up...

an AR/DEagle in 450 bushmaster, now that would be freakin sweet!

EMF Hartford 1892 w/ 24" barrel and S&W 625, both in 45LC.

44 Mag would be another option, with the S&W being the 629 or similar.

I would think that the Glock 22/Kel Tec Sub 2000 combo, with the mag interchangeability would be hard to beat. That said, still dont see the practical use in it. Would much rather have a long gun with an adequate rifle round

I think I'll stick to owning a whole bunch of different guns.

Part of me wants to say, "BFR revolver and sharps rifle in 45-70"

The 1911 and tommy gun was a good answer, especially for gang work/urban warfare.

If it was really a survival type situation, practically speaking, i might go out on a limb and say a ruger 10/22 and a walther 22 caliber pistol.

Walther G22 and Walther P22.

Haven't shot a P22, but it uses the same mags as my G22, and boy do I love that gun!

Otherwise, I'd probably say some .40 cal (I like my CZ75B, but I was thinking about a Steyr M40) and that KelTec Sub2000. That would be a fun combo. Great portability too!

Already mentioned.....

But bears repeating, Ruger GP100 6 in and a Marlin 1894C .357 and tons o fun.
Next choice would be a Camp 45 and a 1911.
Too bad nobody makes a 9mm Carbine that takes BHP mags I would be set.

Hmmm, my personal favorite is a "92" Winchester carbine and a Colt "officers" model DA revolver both in 32-20. The rifle is large enough for deer yet would still leave enough rabbit. The sidearm- though I'm told over and over is far too underpowered would still give a BG something to consider if necessary.

keltec sub -2000 in .40 + Glock 22

Kel-tec SUB2000 and Glock 22 share the same mags

Kel-tec has on their webside that a 9mm bullet coming
out of the Sub 2000 is equal to the .357 mag in energy
Therefore, I extrapolate that the .40 S&W bullet will
be even more.

So you have a combo of immensly reliable
semi-autos that can shoot well and use low capacity
or higher capacity mags

The combo if bought together from a good dealer
should be $800 (or less) out-the-door.

I guess if this combo is not 'acceptable' for some
reason the Taurus Revolver called Judge and in the similar
caliber Lever action is the next best thing (but I think
Keltec + G22 sharing the same mags is really the best
combo)

I have a similar combo. GP100 4" and 1894C. Great fun.

My Ruger 10/22 and 22/45 make a nice inexpensive-to-shoot combination as well.

Part of me hopes that Kel Tec will give in and put out a SUB2000 in .45ACP that uses XD45 mags. I'd buy that to go with my XD.

What? I can stop any time I want. :uhoh:

A friend of mine gets a BIG velocity boost in his Marlin 1894 lever rifle, over a handgun, in .357 mag, load for load. I have a Mirokuchester in .45 Colt, to match my various sixgun in .45 Colt, but the rifle is still in its break-in and experimental stages with me, to make sure the bugs are worked out. I regularly carry .357 revolvers, so I may decide to trade the Mirokuchester for a Marlin 1894C, though I would rather shove larger .45 Colt cartridges through a stubborn loading gate than the smaller .357 cartridges; less likely to fumble. That being said, I would rather, at this point, have my .308 BLR or .223 Mini-14 with me than a pistol-cartridge lever rifle.

As much as I like the idea of a Thompson, I would only want to lug that much weight around if it was a true subgun, not a semi-auto. I did like my Uzi Carbine back in the day; while a little heavy, it was compact with its folding stock, and that was before legal handgun CCW in Texas, so a handgun was not an option. I could carry it in a duffle bag, or slung under a jacket, legally most anywhere in Texas, where rifles and shotguns have long been legal for carry in public.

The SUB2000 used to be, not sure if it still is.

I wouldn't mind the .45 Camp Gun to go with my 1911.:)

I already have the combo in .22, my Heritage Rough Rider revolver and my Winchester 1906 pump action rifle. I have 1\2 the combo in .357, my Taurus Gaucho. Am still looking for a lever action rifle in .357 with a 24" barrel to complete that combo. Add in a decent shotgun of your choice and you are ready to go.

AFAIK there has never been a SUB 2000 variant that used BHP mags. They make 9mm models that will use these mags:

Glock 17, Glock 19, S&W 59, Beretta 92, SIG 226
