NBC sends armed guards to lawless Gulf Coast

In regards tothe ability to carry across country legally,

I work as an armed security guard and often when things like this disaster happen we have many guards from across the country called into service out of thier home liscenced state.

Most nationwide and global security firms have some sort of global authority when it comes to security liscencing of thier personell. However the rules are extremely strict in how, when where etc. they are authorised to carry and can only do so when working in thier official capacity as a security professional.

I feel sorry for our guys down there right now as our company only issues .38 specials with lead ball ammo as our carry issue which isn't the most effective round when dealing with mobs.

The idea in dealing with mobs is NOT to shoot except as a last, desperate resort. The proper weapons are shields, batons, and helmits with face protection. You use tear gas, and back it up with water cannon. Shooting is the LAST resort.

The private security officers, usually former soldiers or police, are licensed to carry firearms

Hmm, who all does LA have CCW reciprocity with? :scrutiny:

some sort of global authority

passed by 'some sort of global legislature'? Is the UN being delegated authority I don't know about?

A lot of this doesn't seem to be mobs, but little gangs of looters. Chase one gang off, and there's another to fill the vacuum.

I'm just amazed how ineffective we are as a country in getting law, food, water, evacuation, sanitation, basic stuff to this area. With all the MRE's and C-rats stored somewhere, food should not be a problem. We should be able to pull a bunch of pbr's out of mothballs, mount the m60's, and restore order to even the most flooded areas. I'm sure smarter people than me are working on it very hard, but I'd expect to see convoys of national guard trucks hauling people to civilization, and ng troops coming down very hard on lawbreakers. Improvement is very slow, and people are suffering.

end of rant.

you've got to remember there is a whole industry or multiple industries built around people, non LE people, having access to guns for 'security work' off the top of my head, bail bondsmen bountyhunters. People who are bodyguards for the rich elite, or for the Boobtoob famous. Take someone like that Brittney Spears, i'd bet dollars to donughts she has at least one personal protector who is packing and does so in multiple states.

These guys either get as many standard CCW permits as possible, apply under some form of 'job related' status (i.e. like a privately owned armored car company driver) take advantage of loopholes, or plan on the 'starpower' of their protector to make sure the LE of the are never really check them out.

I don't know who or what grants the permission, all I know is that we have officers from the US going to all sorts of worldwide sites with no special paperwork to work in thier hands, the company somehow manages to either get away with it or has permission for thier people to operate pretty much anywhere they have offices without having to get the officers qualified at each location seperately.

My Sunday morning quarterbacking...

It seems to me that we, in general, knew or expected that this storm could destroy N.O., as such, why wasn't someone in federal government ordering the loading and lining up of semi after semi of tents, MRE, medications, etc. These should have been deployed by the N.G. Correct me if I am wrong, but only the Governor can order up the Nat'l Guard. If accurate, much of the failure befalls to Governor. All the same, their is enough blame to go around, but blame solves nothing!

Regarding the looting, Shepard Smith said it best (I think it was he), I've seen looting and I've seen survival". He cited people "stealing food" and people "stealing five pair of Nike shoes". I think most people can forgive the food for a baby, but shoes...five pairs? That seems wrong to me.

What troubled me, was when the police officer drew down his shotgun on two looters, yanked them out of the store, and then, simply let them walk away!?!?!!? What?!?!?! If what they were doing was so bad as to merit drawing a 12 gauge shotgun on them, cart them off to jail too! They will simply walked around the corner, and I'd bet they did, and just loot on some other street.

That said, I AM SOOOO glad that I am not one of the people there. This whole mess sure makes my life look like paradise. And so in closing, a whole lot of people are suffering because (it appears) insufficient planning and carry-though by a whole lot of people, and many levels.

Regarding the rent-a-cop issue, sure they are hypocrites for slamming guns, then hiring guns. Our liberal media has done it for years, they are doing it now, and they will continue to do so until we turn them off, and turn on pro-gun media. Unfortunately, I do not see a quick, clean end to this horrid mess.

I remember so vividly, one vender NYC, who following the 9/11 attacks "opened shop" (what was left of it), and basically gave away EVERYTHING he had to people in need. Talk about selflessness. Well, I'm on a rant now. I sure feel for ALL involved. There are no winner here. This is just awful all the way around! God bless the little babies there! If you believe in prayer, regardless of religious affiliation, I guess now is as appropriate a time as any to call on a higher power!

What was he supposed to do with them? Do you think the police facilities were magically elvated? Do you honestly believe there is a jail to take them to? Do you realise they haven't had police communications for three days? Do you realize these guys are going to work and basically freelancing in their normal districts in the absence of recieving word of mouth instructions. No back up, no command, no communications. I'm impressed they are even out there.

I think those of us who are high and dry and moaning about gas prices need to be less judgmental of those who have suffered personnal catastrophe and still show up and try to do their sworn duty.

Maybe I missed it, if so I'm sorry for the duplicate post. As to the security personnel being licensed to carry firearms, did it occur to anyone that the networks might have hired local securty companys to provide the security. I'm sure that all the states have in-state securty companys that would love a big-buck contract from a network.

NBC is there for a lawful purpose and they have the right to self defense. Why is that a problem?

Why is that a problem?

It's not a problem, it's fine.

I think the point of the original post is that NBC is often editorializing on the side of gun-grabbing million-mom-marching bunches of bradies. Implying that normal law-abiding citizens don't have the right to own and carry firearms for defense.

But when it comes to protecting liberal elite media folks, guns are good.

It's just an "irony" thing, I think.

Regards.

No problem, just hypocrisy. The self selecting elite have rights that the rest of the untermenschen do not.

Any reports of looting and other general lawlessness from other affected areas ??

I for one would volunteer to protect say... Dan Rather if he still was spinning the leftist news.

Then when the SHTF, I would say ... "bye Danny" and walk away. :barf:

I watched a reporter on ABC news on the net, who was confronting a looter, saying, "Is that OK? You just stole that! Do you think tha's OK?" What do you think would have happened if the looter had simply pulled the pistol he looted from the pawnshop yesterday, and shot the reporter on camera? When would anyone be able to chase him down? Ever? these "princes" of the media could be about to get a rude wake up call.

I saw that. It looked staged. Like the reporter found some kid and said "you pretend to loot, and you can have a bottle of water and a sandwich". Like a professional looting re-enactor.

No Way Jose ....Here's Why

Okay --

1. The city is flooded.
2. The city offices are closed and everyone trying just to survive.
3. Societal norms and behavoral expectations have gone out the window.
4. Do you really think there's some clerk in the New Orleans Police office sitting around waiting to issue CCW permits to out of state 'security personnel'?
5. How can they type up the permit when the offices are flooded and there's no electricity in the city??

I don't think so....No

How does that quote go...

from Uncle George?

All animals are equal. Some animals are more equal than others.
