I am wondering if this can pass for a 100yd spotting scope. All I want to do is be able to see my hits without walking downrange very time a shoot a group. I know it's extremely cheap and willl eventually break. I am also aware most people find NCstar stuff to be junk. But being a cheap college student I just need it to hold me over until i get a summer job and can afford a nice one. So will it perform the bare minimum of letting me see hits in a 100 yard target and hopefully last the summer? This is my first year at a non-private range. I previously shot on private land with friends and one usually had a spotting scope. Having to wait much longer for cease fires to check my target really made me realize how valuable a spotting scope is. I'm sick of trying to shoot a group and then sitting there until there's a cease fire. I plan to get a quality scope that will last once I have the money, but right now I just need the bare minimum to hold me over until then.

What are you shooting? rifle, pistol? and do you have a scope on your gun? and if so what power is it?

Reason I ask is that I've found that I can see .223 hits on target at 100 meters with my 10X scope thats on the rifle. granted not very well but I can see them. with my Leupold 6.5-20X50 scope I can see them as if I was standing right there.

but to put things into perspective, a couple of the guys I deployed with bought NCStar scopes for their M4s, total junk. I have a Winchester spotting scope that is 12-50 power with a 50mm objective lens. I paid right around a hundred dollars for it and consider it to be substandard optics, guess the leupold has jaded me. nightforce is next.

Mostly just the SKS. Other than that my guns are either pistols or .22cals that i don't go past 50 yards with. I even had trouble making out 50yd .22cal holes with my 4x scope. I have no other scoped guns and I am trying to build skills with irons.

A friend of mine bought that same spotting scope. I think he paid $40. Looks like he got ripped off. In any event, it's total junk. Yes, it'll probably let you see hits at 100 yds, but you're not going to enjoy doing so. The blue fringing was so bad that I'd rather take the time to walk to the target than have to look through that tube again.

Someone who knows more about optics could explain this better, but cheap glass doesn't have the same "resolution" that good glass does. You see less detail even at the same magnification level.

If there's any way you can spend an extra one or two hundred dollars then do it. It'll be worth it.

Two hundred dollars is 8 times the cost of the scope. it looks like I should just hold off? Anybody ever had any luck at pawn shops? Where else should I look?
