Cee Zee, Nice to know your Savage Performed that well. Can you give us details, ammo used and if used BR equip, and if in controlled conditions? That is exceptional!! Nice!

Savage listed the ammo they used in their form letter they sent me. It was Federal Gold Medal Ultra Match. That certainly isn't cheap ammo but I've shot 1" groups with that rifle with Wolf ammo and with Eley Black Box EPS. I shoot groups like that at the range from sandbags. Of course I limited my shooting this past summer so I'm sure my practice level is down. That irks me to no end. I did most of my practice at home though. I had my own bench setup and a 50 yard range.

To be honest I don't think it's all that unusual for a .22 to be able to shoot 1" groups pretty frequently at 100 yards. I've seen more than a few rifles do it.

My scope suggestion is the Bushnell Banner 3-9x40 with 6" eye relief. It costs around $90 and has worked well on my 10/22 and 15-22

Have you used it yet? Does it sight easily and well for you? Do you hit what you're aiming at reliably?

If so, then it was a good choice!

:)
Yes Sir, works great. Love the adjustable objective feature. I was on paper within a few inches at 100 yards but was limited to accuracy because of ammo. I am confident with better grade ammo. I will be able to have a nice tight group. Scope was a good choice for me. Thanks for asking.

I posted that because I have been doing the same thing and just sharing some info I just came across. The OP has already chosen his rifle and scope. I got a 540xr, my Nitrex scope was to big for the rings I had so I mounted a Weaver. I want more power so I ordered some Warne bases taller rings and a Mueller target scope. I do expect one inch groups at 100 yards when she is done and ammo tested. My CZ has shot good groups at 100 yards with bulk ammo. About 2 1/2 inches. I will see. The range is snowed in now so I don't know when I will get to shooting.

Great info here...now what type of .380 acp would make the best CC for my wife?

If you start a new thread on that, you'll get good answers.
I would let her try some different .380s out. When I was last in Florida I went shooting with a group which included three women. There were two SIG P238s in use, and they all found them easy to rack and shoot.

Was just looking at contest results on Rimfire Central. The contests usually are for factory sporter and varmint rifles and specify the ammunition used must be sport type ammo under $5.00 a box. No expensive match ammo. Some modifications allowed depending on the rules for the specific contest. Anyway the overall favorites are the CZ rifles. They are not the only ones to shoot good groups but for the money and casual shooting they are hard to beat. I haven't had my 540xb and 136B to the range with my CZ but come spring I will be comparing them. I expect the 540xb to be best but time will tell.

As someone else already said, you'd be better off posting this as your own question. However, before you do, use the search feature and see what's already been posted on this subject. Might already be a lot of useful informaion out there.

That said, pardon me if I hijack this thread a wee bit. (Don't be surprised if this comment ends up edited out by a moderator as such.)

In general, what your wife would find best suited for any gun, not just the .380, is what anybody else would find. And this applies even to the .22 rifle and scope that the OP posted in this string, so I suppose this MIGHT be considered slightly on-topic...

(I know, I'm stretching here.)

1. It has to fit her hand. If it's not comfortable, she's not going to like it no matter how nice a gun it might be. Which means she won't want to shoot it and she won't want to carry it.

2. It has to be easy to aim and shoot for her. By this I mean it can't be something that makes her position her hands in an unnatural or uncomfortable way in order to obtain and hold a sight picture. If it is...again, she won't want to shoot or carry it.

3. The operation of the gun has to be something she's either comfortable with or that she can easily learn. If it requires hand/body strength she doesn't have to rack the slide, for example, or even load the magazines, then it ain't gonna work for the same reasons I outlined above. Some difficulties can be oversome with reasonable training and practice. Some never are overcome for a combination of many reasons.

All these things I cited are NOT limited to women...they apply to everybody, regardless of gender, age, size, or physical limitations and regardless of what the gun is...the .22 rifle/scope the OP asked about or the .380 question you have.

I strongly advise taking anybody who wants a new gun, especially one for self-defense or home-defense, out to handle and actually shoot a variety of guns and let THEM decide.

I just bought my wife a Walther PPK/S in .380, knowing she'd be thrilled because she's a huge Bond fan and the PPK/S is one of the well known Bond guns. She was going to like this gun regardless...and she does.

However, as a self-defense weapon she's nowhere near able to handle it properly simply because the physical act of racking the slide is exceptionally difficult for her. At this time, the PPK/S would absolutely suck as a self-defense pistol for her. I fully expect her to overcome this eventually because it's simply not in her nature to NOT go out and shoot HER Bond gun. There are a number of other .380 pistols out there which would probably be more suited as a self-defense gun for such as my wife.
