i own and shoot a couple of 1911s and i am looking to purchase a 9mm

i am inclined to go with the Browning High Power based primarily upon my research on THR

i would like some opinions, however, on whether it makes more sense to go with a "1911-style" 9mm like an STI or Rock River Arms

i would also like to hear some opinions on the BHP v. the Sig P226 or the H&K USP

between these options, i am inclined toward the BHP primarily because of the high price on the other guns

if the higher price is justified by significantly better quality or accuracy in the sig or the H&K (or the STI or RRA), i would consider them

I have nothing against Glocks, but they are not in the running

please let me know what you think

thanks

I don't own a BHP or USP, but I do own a P226. Great gun, fills your hand well, a good deal if you buy a CPO (factory refurb or demo with warranty), the night sights are excellent (not a big fan of the rear-outline/front-dot setup for non-night sight models).

The only flaw, IMO, is the DA/SA setup. I prefer either SA or DAO (or striker-fired), or a DA/SA that can be cocked-and-locked rather than just decocked. I guess that's not really a flaw so much as a preference.

If you're willing to spend RRA money, though, you could go up to the Sig P226 X-Five, a competition model - they come in SA-only versions, I believe.

One not mentioned that you might look at is the CZ 75B SP-01 - all steel, very much like a BHP, accurate and reliable.

I have owned all three. I currently own only one.

I say BHP.

The HK was not for me. Felt like a 2X4 in my hand. I wanted to love it but just could not. DA was tight good SA.

The Sig P226 is a nice gun. Better DA then the HK and just as nice SA. In the end I could not do anything with the P226 that I could not do with my P228 so I sold the P226. It was a Navy.

The BHP is the best of the group for me. Fits my hand points naturally and is a similar manual of arms to my 1911s. I love mine so much I had custom work done on it. SA 9mm perfection. SO much more elegant than the HK. The HK is crude by comparison IMHO. If you are going to spend RRA money I would get a stock HP and then go to town. You will end up with a slick BHP setup exactly the way you want it not the way the marketing manger wanted it.

In the end you really can't go wrong with any of them. I would say feel in the hand will tell you which way to go.

I've only handled the BHP and SIG 226. Either one would be excellent choices.

I'm not familiar with STI's or RRA's offerings. They may very well be excellent products. I just don't know.

HK has earned an excellent reputation as well.

Have you tried any of them?

I love 1911's but they should be in 45 ACP or 10mm.

9mm 1911's just don't do it for me.

I have owned the USP 40 and I currently own the USP Tactical 45, for me USP are excellent guns, get what fits best in your hands.

Shoot them all and choose the one that fits you best. Sounds like money is not an issue, but I'd check out a CZ-75. You'd have enough $ left over to buy lots and lots of ammo.
I have a P226 and a CZ-75 (pre-ban). I've had Hks, but didn't like them as much as my Sigs. For me, Sigs fit perfectly.
You won't go wrong with any of the guns you have listed. Good luck with your choice.

The HK was not for me. Felt like a 2X4 in my hand. I wanted to love it but just could not.

+1. And the magazine release is stupid. Totally different than any other handgun.

Any other handgun? My P99c has the same release, and so does my P22. I am sure there are others that can chime in with other guns that use similar magazine release.

Love the BHP, but I think the USP is about the best pistol on the market. I base this on the way they field test the USP's. I just wish my hand was big enough for one.

Like I said you really cannot go wrong. Go to a nice shop and try each one on for size and one will jump out at you.

BHP, no question. It is the classic 9MM and the equivalent of the 1911 concept only in 9MM. Yes, better than a 9MM 1911 as it was designed for the 9MM not the .45. Yes, I still want a 9MM 1911.

Need lots of 9mm

I have a Browning Hi-Power in 9mm,
and also a Series 80 Gov Colt in 9mm.
Have to say I love them both.
Get one of each !
How can you have too many 9mm's ?
Also recently picked up a CX-4 Carbine
Feels chintzy too me , but is it a blast
at the range

get whatever the cheapest. when I see people comparing guns, and they even have the slightest mention of price, you get the cheapest.

I'd vote BHP because they're becoming a little harder to come by...the others you can always pick up another time. :)

If I were in your shoes (w/ your experience w/ 1911's and looking to add a 9mm), I'd give a serious look at the Browning Hi-Power! ;)

All good, quality guns!

I prefer the Hi Power. The HK is too chunky for me, personally. The Sig is nice but it's DA/SA and I like SA much better. The 1911 style is SA too so it's just kind of your liking at that point. As far as reliability though, the BHP is tough to beat. :)
