Have a fairly new '92 in .357. I download alot and shoot .38s also and even with factory sights and lighter loads this rifle is very accurate. Problem is when i shoot factory or zippier loads, i still get a nice grouping but 7-8" higher than point. I've already got the sight elevator out. I don't like the look of the peep on the safety switch. I see Skinner now has barrel sight and wonder if anyone out there has tried it? Does that sight provide both elevation & windage and whats my chances of not having to replace the front post ? Thanks

I have a skinner sight on my 92. I like it better than the safety sight I have tried. Mine is mounted forward of the ejection port fwiw. The skinner is very solid, and mine offers windage and elevation. As to your front post I cannot say. You could always file it down a bit shorter to help get things where they should be.

Steve's Gunz in the answer to your prayers, like he was for mine with my R92 44 shooting very high. Here's a link to his website, and he will email/talk with you if you need help. He has quality stuff, too, very good. Also, you will find a wealth of info here: http://www.rossi-rifleman.com/

P.S. Here is his reply to my original query - I ordered the ones he recommended and it is dead on now:

Hi George ,

Thanks for the inquiry. Yep, shooting too high is pretty common with the Rossi 92’s particularly the round barrel carbines and the ranch hand. This is mainly because Rossi tries to do a one size fits and the rear sight that comes on it is just too tall.

If you go to Steves Gunz Web Store you will find replacement sights for the round barrel carbines like this Flat Top rear sight - Round barrel or this Low Semi-buckhorn rear sight - Round barrel. These rears are lower than the stock Rossi and any of my ROUND BARREL FRONT SIGHTS are slightly higher for the front. They also work with the Ranch Hand.

I don’t recommend a taller front mainly because the dovetail is too shallow and they tend to get knocked loose too easy the taller you go.

Or, you can go with my Adjustable Bolt-Mounted Peep Sight Safety Replacement you can use the stock front with it.

You will need this Dovetail Slot Blank to fill the barrel slot. Also, check under the rear sight to see if there are 4 holes. You may need these Plug screws for Rossi 92 rifles.

Thanks,
