I am getting ready to take a good friend out gun shopping tomorrow. He's a big ol' boy at 6'8" and his hands are big as all get out. I'm a 1911 fan and he does like the 1911 the issue is I don't know if it's big enough for his hands. I'm looking for an autoloader and am not worried really about caliber because this guy can pretty much take it all. Can anyone toss out some suggestions on something ath will fit his hands. On my operator and pt1911 he has a finger hanging off the end and one barely staing on the bottom of the grip. I'm an average size guy so I have always had to worry about the grip being too large, this is a brand new dilemma for me. Any suggestions and even a link to a picture would be a great help.

The Ruger P90 has a relatively thick grip, for a single stack .45. I've heard the CZ97 (.45ACP) grip also has some girth to it.

FNP-45, either the DA/SA or the USG which adds a safety - the decocker lever goes up to SAFE.

It's a fairly large pistol, the flat-bottomed mags hold 14 rounds of .45 ACP and the round-bottomed mags are 15 rounds.

Ambidexterous controls and there are interchangeable arched and flat backstrap inserts.

Thanks guys, some great ideas here. Not only the circumference of the grip is important but also the length of it. I am going to be giving these a good eyeballing tomorrow to see if any fit his hands. I already assumed the size could be adjusted on pretty much anything it is more or less the length is the biggest concern.

The HK USP is a good choice for big hands. The Sig P-220 is another good one.

HK USP - without question. The full-size .45 is a beast (that, or the Mk 23).

Agree with the other suggestions of P220, CZ.

How about a Remington 870 with carry bevel and melt treatment IWB? :neener:

I'm 6' 4" and have long hands, I went to the Hogue grips that are roundy for a bit bigger circumference, and the Dude will probably require a long non-
GI 1911A1 trigger length.

+1 on the H&K USP as well as the 97B, but add the Para Ordnance P14 or
the other make Double Stack .45 ACP.would also work as well as a P14
Most likely really needs the beavertail on a 1911 style handgun.

LOL, I always wanted to see a guy his size hammering on this canon! It has the biggest grip I have ever seen.

I could be wrong, it's been a long week but don't the XDMs have interchangeable (adjustable) grip panels and could you get an extended mag for it??

CZ SP-01 Tactical...

First choice would be a CZ SP-01 Tactical... large gun, great shoot, very accurate and great hand fit. Almost 1000rnds in mine, FLAWLESS!

Second, would ditto JohnBT on the FNP-45... great shoot, large-gun grip/feel, very low recoil for a .45, very accurate.

.

I forgot to mention, if he's interested in 9mm, the Beretta 92. is a handful for that caliber pistol. For that matter, the CZ 75B might work also, though, I believe the Beretta grips are larger.

grab a gun with a double stack 45 in it. I know Taurus does a double stack 45. Glock might too, and the full size glocks have long enough butts to them

Plus 1 on the H&K USP, if he likes the 1911 I think Para Ordnance makes a double stack and Springfield too I think.

While I'm not a fanboy, a Glock 21 (not the SF) has the biggest grip I've ever shot. Like holding a 2x4 - good shooters though...

Glock 21, HK USP, Beretta 92FS with Hogue wraparound grips, STI 2011 double stack 1911, forget the Para Ordnance, quality control is too erratic.

Ditto to Radagast on the STI 2011 double stacks. You can even get a little more grip length by either adding a magwell or going to the 140mm magazines. While pricier than most mainstream 1911/2011 pistols, they are outstanding weapons.

Well he went with a 1911. I appreciate all the suggestions. I think he's going to get a magwell added to it to see if that will take up the extra length he needs for it. I got lots of great suggestions here and he is going to go out a purchase an HK usp45 next weekend because ultimately that was the one that fit his hand best. I think he went with the 1911 because I own a few of them and talk so highly of them. He's getting a magwell put on it now along with some 3dot sights and a trigger. Once it's done about mid-week we will see what else it needs to fit his hand better.

Good choice on the 1911. Plenty big enough and a legendary design. Everyone should own a 1911 IMO even if it's as simple as a GI model.

The Mark 23 and Desert eagle both have quite a bit of grip.

If he wants a 1911-platform gun, consider getting an STI with thick grips.
