Hello everybody,

My birthday is coming up next month, and I've decided to buy myself a little present. After much research and comparing, I've settled on one shotgun, the Mossberg 590A1 with 20" barrel and ghost ring sights.

What's a good price for one of these? I would prefer to buy used, but I'm willing to buy new, and I would like an idea how much these are going for (in 2008 prices, both new and used) so I can know if I'm getting a good deal or getting ripped off when I find one.

Thanks.

I just picked up a 590 NIB for $349.99. They knocked off $10 for military discount too. Ghost ring sights didn't come on it, so I can't offer any advice there.

Check on gunbroker and you might be able to answer your question.

In Oregon a used 590 will run you around $300, new from $350 to $400.

EDIT: When I'm price hunting I start two places. Gunbroker, and google shopping ie: froogle. Both will give you a ballpark figure of high and low ranges for new. Used can take a finer toothed comb.

Just to let you know, a 590A1 will command a pretty decent premium over the "regular" 590.

The price quotes you have received so far are for standard 590 shotguns.

These are New gun prices:

The 590A1 with a 20" barrel will runs about $450. The LE 590A1 with a 18.5" barrel for LE sales will run about $390. The 590A1 model that comes with a Speedfeed stock add $30 to the above prices.

I just thought I'd chime in and say that today I found this exact shotgun (20" bbl, ghost ring sights, just as pictured in post #1) at a local gun store going for $540. Yikes!

I thought only semi-autos were severly affected by price-gouging? At any rate, it looks like I won't be buying this shotgun unless I find a good deal on a used one somewhere.

I just checked Mossberg's website, and apparently the 590A1, as pictured in post #1, has an MSRP of $605.00 (item #51663). This seems high but I'm assuming cost would be less from a dealer, correct?

Considering they went up in price since the last time I inquired about them, what are these going for these days?

Thanks.

There is no such thing as the 590A1 with a heat shield, indeed. I think you can fit one yourself with a little bit of elbow grease but it doesn't come like that.

I still feel like many people aren't seeing that the OP is asking about the 590A1 - not the regular 590.

Gunshop in NH I was at today had a new 20 inch 590A1 with speedfeed stock for $395.00

You are correct paul34, I am indeed looking for the A1 variation. I understand that the standard 590 is available in a special purpose model (590 SP) with similar features, but I would like the heavy barrel and all-metal construction of the A1. I know it's probably overbuilt for my uses, but I would like to have the beefed-up version instead of the SP. I feel that either one I find would be expensive through a dealer, so I might as well go all out and get the 590A1. And according to Mossberg's MSRP list, the A1 isn't much more expensive than an identically-equipped 590 Special Purpose.

So A1 it is. :)

Well.. for the money, I decided to go with the 590 Special Purpose

just $339 at Big 5 Sporting Goods a few weeks ago, it was a no-brainer to me.

For myself, it's not that I don't like the 590A1 and I sure wouldn't mind having one, but for a home defense shotgun and keeping the cost moderately low, you can get the primary benefits of a 590A1 for a great price with the 590 SP. Either way, great gun, awesome utility... how much do you want to spend?

If you need a Ghost ring sight set, they are available to install on a 500/590.
