Need a strong combat knife with a positive retention kydex sheath

I'm looking for a good strong, preferably ambidextrous, fixed blade combat knife with a positive retention kydex sheath (ya know, the kind that the knife *clicks* into and has no strap)

I've already got a CRKT polaski kasper and I've found this on the blackwater pro shop...

it looks like a good one but I want to see my options in knives with sheaths of that type.

The Blackwater knife is a special version of Benchmade's Nimravus. The sheaths are the same.

Almost every knife company offers a molded sheath to secure a knife so your options while not endless seem so.

CRKT offers several. Your Kasper is a good example. Their Ultimas are another.

Temberline offers a couple of models that are good.

If that's in your price range, you like it go for it. CRKT is a good brand that has a good reputation. I've handled several. A THR member may be able to make a deal on that.

For a low-cost but robust solution, try the Glock knife. $33 from that store, less elsewhere.

SOG makes the Seal or Seal pup. I have the pup and it is a great knife.

You could buy pretty much any knife you like and have a sheathmaker form a kydex sheath for it. The Sheath Mechanic and Bladetech come to mind, but there are lots of folks out there doing kydex.

Were I you, I wouldn't limit myself to finding a production package.

I have both CRKT and Benchmade knives.The Benchmade Is definatly better steel.154CM or D-2 tool steel.Cold Steel SRK is a very Good,robust blade as well,but You would have to have a kydex made for it.

Check out Rex Applegate's daggers which are now made by Boker. They come with your preference of Kydex, or leather. Mine came with a Kydex sheath and I love it. It has a rubber loop to hold the hande, but its never needed because of how well the sheath works. With the exception of the single sided knives, these things are meant for little else other than killing people, so don't plan on getting one for camp chores or something. They are much to thick to have a sharp edge, although the 440C RW58 blade is very sturdy, and can hold as good of an edge as it will take for quite some time. They can be purchased for 100-160 bucks on the web depending on what site you get them from.

Buy a Strider fixed blade. They come from a great company who can actually say they have 'been there, and done that.' Mick Strider and Dwuane Dwyer are great guys who back their products to the wall. I highly recommend them.

In response to fisi's mentioning Tops, I have a Tops bowie knife. Yes it is a brute strong knife, but the tip is much to thin (fighting knives need beefy tips, not razor sharp tips), and 1095 is a very quickly dulling blade steel. Add to this the fact that they cost roughly 4 times what they are worth, and I believe Tops knives are a certifiable rip off.

If you like the Polkowski, why not take a look at one of his actual handmade pieces? The fit\finish is top notch and prices are very reasonable with most models being under $500. Depends on the price range you're looking at. They all come with a kydex sheath setup for IWB carry. They work very well.
Will you be using the knife strictly for personal defense or will it see a variety of field work as well?

I have a bench made nimravus, except without the tanto point. I like it a lot and it has survived several military field schools. When I first bought the knife I was a little worried that the blade might be too thin, but by the time I finished abusing it I was a believer.

I have chopped wood with it, used it as a splitting wedge (pounded on it with a club to split wood), hacked down trees, skinned animals, cut wire, and all kinds of other things that you aren't supposed to do to a knife. It has held up admirably and kept an edge surprisingly well also.

I think they may be shipping with a new sheath now, but it is at least kydex lined.

If you are really particular about your knives, then buy the knife you prefer and call up any holster maker and they should be able to put together a kydex sheath for your new knife.

A Becker BK9 with a custom fitted Kydex rig will cost you about $120 max. You would be unable to beat that combo for the price. My camp knife is a BK9 and it keeps a great edge, despite the fact it has accidently chopped into some occasional concrete. Plus it was designed by a guy who has edited The Joy of Cooking.
