The OP is not talking about living in the wilderness for years without being able to clean or service his gun. A properly built 1911 will run for ever with just a little oil. Call all the BS you want but they did just fine through a few wars. The same can be said for the 92FS and the BHP. The Glock as never been fielded as the primary side arm in a major conflict. That does not take away from the fact they are durable long lasting reliable guns.
In the end just about any gun the OP picks is going to work. The real issue for me is mindset. A gun is just a tool. Use the tool in whatever way you want. It does not care. It is a machine and if it is built properly it will function. It has no choice. The Glock is a great choice. I have custom guns that I treat like tools. They are made to be shot, carried and worn out.
That said if you asked me you get to have 50 pistols for the end of the world I would choose 25 Glock 19s and 25 Glock 17s. Magazine commonality and parts commonality and the ability to battle field pick up guns, mags, ammo etc... would be higher with Glock more than any other gun. The 19 and the 17 these days rule the world. For me however they have no soul. They are lifeless hunks of metal and plastic so I choose other guns to tote around on a daily. As Ken Hackathorn once told me you can wear a Rolex or a Timex. Both will tell you the time accurately enough.
