OK, today is cyber Monday and I am looking for a new semiauto 22LR. It will mainly be for plinking fun, a teaching tool for new shooters, and to teach me to be a better pistol shooter. This will most probably be my one and only 22LR pistol, so it should last a looong time.

I was looking at the 1911 22's but I keep on going back to the Ruger 22/45.

Buds has a good deal on them and I only have till sunset to decide.

Thanks for all your help.

I have a 22/45 with a VQ accurizing kit - sweet shooter. I also have a Kimber conversion kit, which allows me to train with my (now former) carry gun's actual trigger.

For general plinking and beginners, the 22/45 wins - after adding the VQ kit. ~$100 for the kit.

If your purpose in owning a .22LR semi-auto is to become a better shooter, then you have far more options than those two. The gun I bought to plink and teach with is a Buckmark. I can't think of a better option.

If you want a .22 pistol that "looks like a real SD pistol," consider also the Walther P22. That's the one I'd buy.

I train new shooters at our local church on basic handgun skills. I originally started with a Ruger Mark III pistol but found that it was pinching fingers when they tried to "help" the bolt go forward, rather than pulling it back and letting go. I now use a S&W M&P22 for training them because it replicates the same action manipulation as my Glock 19 and other polymer framed pistols. I have a Mark II 22/45 for my own shooting enjoyment. A 1911 copy in .22 lr would be a good choice for helping out new shooters. Just be sure to explain the operational features prior to going out to the range so they are familiar with it.

I had a Beretta Neos. It shot any ammo and was very easy to use. I didn't like the safety position but that was only an issue when the safety was on.
I sold it to get an advantage arms kit for my Glock. These require better ammo though.

MKII or MKIII these will feed any thing. The 22/45 has a different grip angle matching the 1911. My MKIII had over 20k rounds through it in 5 yrs. I bought it used so I have no idea of the round count. Just keeps on working, I only detail clean every 2k rounds. My MKIII Hunter has been tricked out, 2# trigger. The few that I know that have Buckmarks found that their guns are ammo sensitive.

IMO the SA trigger on a S&W Model 63 is a great way to teach trigger squeeze.

I also don't have to worry about a new shooter having to clear a malfunction while just learning the fundamentals.

It's 9:30 on the East coast as I post this, so sunset for you should be right about now... what did you get?
Ruger SR-22?

I swear by my Mk-II Standard (denotes the 4.75-inch tapered barrel, with fixed sights.)

Rugar Mark III. I have two (Target with a Tactical Solutions upper and a Hunter with a competion grips) and both are superb. Great fun to shoot and so accurate it's scary.

:( I didn't buy anything. I couldn't make up my mind. Buds was offering not to charge the extra 3% for purchases using a credit card. Saving $9-15 was not worth being commited to a gun for along time. Besides, they have extended it till the end of the week. So I still have time.

It has boiled down to the Smith and Wesson M&P 22 pistol. I wanted a "real gun" feel vs the Ruger, which I still think may be the best 22LR pistol in the market. I also like the Sig SAuer 1911 22 LR. So we will see...

I do understand; last time I was in your situation I bought two. Gotta stay out of the gun stores.

I'll have to say - the Ruger Mark III feels a whole lot more like a "real gun" to me than the potmetal and plastic M&P 22.

Buy one soon and get it done so you can have fun. Don't wait too long for the perfect gun and deal.

You'll buy more in the future, anyway. ;)

OK, OK, I decided on the Sig Sauer 1911 22 in Flat Dark Earth. I just placed the order through Buds for $415 with insurance. I wanted the 1911, my favorite pistol. I also respect the Sig Sauer brand of firearms and really like the flat dark earth color. The other reason I chose the 1911 also was because I could not qualify for the 6month 0% interest unless I spend more than $399. :D

Now that opens up a whole new can. I never thought about buying guns on time, just vehicles, houses and stuff like that mostly. This is a whole new paradigm for me.
