Was looking at getting a 22 pistol to plink with and teach the little lady when I came across this at Buds http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=411535990. Seems like a good deal for $399 and comes with a coupon for $399 45 conversion kit. $800 sounds good for a quality 22LR and 45. Am i missing something? Any opinions are appreciated. I'm ex military but know very little about handguns other than the Beretta.

Thanks

Sounds like a very good deal if everything works as it should. The Sig 22 conversion kit has only been on the market a very short time and I haven't personally read many reviews about it.

Keep in mind this is the SAO version, no decocker or first DA trigger pull.

When you figure a standard 45 SAO runs about $850, sounds like a screaming deal.

Thanks for the response. I've got a email in asking if there's an expiration date on the coupon. The 22 conversion kit is >$300 by itself every place I've seen it.

I bought the P226 version a couple of months ago and it is %$#@$^%$ AWESOME! Just make sure to use some grease on the rails to minimize friction. I like Tetra Gun Grease. If the gun is properly lubed, it is extremely reliable, and has eaten virtually every type of ammo I have fed it. Also, the micro-grooved stainless barrel with the recessed crown is very accurate... almost on the level of my Ruger MKIII Target model. The mags look sort of weird being all plastic, but they are working great thus far. The sights are nice too, the rear being fully adjustable horizontally and vertically. Also, compared to other .22 autos like the Walther P22 and the Sig Mosquito, the Sig .22 Conversions are made of top notch materials. The slides are machined of high grade aluminum forgings, not some lousy pot metal castings. The barrel is very well machined, and the lower is the same as any other full sized Sig. I highly recommend one of these, and the price is good.

I saw that at Bud's earlier tonight too and if I hadn't just picked up a new 22lr pistol that would be very high on my "to purchase" list. The SIG Mosquito that I had was less than spectacular but I'm sure that SIG will have done right by this model. They are doing some very interesting things lately. I just wish that I could afford them.

nope...they'll only have conversion kits for the 226, 220 and 229. i have one for my 226ST and it really is a quality product.

if i didn't already a 3 220s, i'd be all over this deal. when you buy the whole package, it's almost like getting the conversion kit for free...i didn't realise they were putting them on the SAO models.

the only thing is to be sure you want a SAO as opposed to a DA/SA

Sounds like a must buy and easy New Year's resolution.:D

I just bought the P220 .22LR from buds. I cleaned it up and it all seems to be high quality. i have not had a chance to head to the range yet, but i am very excited to give it a go. as others have said, you basically get the .22 conversion for free once you use the .45 coupon. i am excited to have a SAO Sig .45 too. i just need ammo+time!

cheers

EDIT:

the one thing i did notice out of the box was that the manual thumb safety is pretty stiff... has anyone else noticed this on the SAO p220 frame? is there a way i can smooth out the action of the safety? its totally manageable but would be nice to tweak it a bit.

May 1, 2009 Still Available?

Hi all, I have been reading a lot of great posts. This one caught my eye as a great deal.

Anyone know if this deal is still available?

I'm a new Sig owner. 3 Awesomely engineered weapons that mostly bring me joy, except 1. Mosquito that's in the the shop. 50 % FTFeeds using only CCI Mini Mags. But I'm still a believer if they make it right. 2. A 1983 P6 with wicked low round count: Frame is 90%. With some work and my NEW BAR STO barrel. It's gonna be a fine German Piece or functional art work. 3. New P226 with Crimson Trace Grips (by the way...super comfy and great trainer along with home defense tactical intimidatin.) 700 rounds and not a glitch. More accurate than me. Benched 1 1/2 inch groups at 25 yards. Stock trigger is getting smoother and smoother the more I use. Gonna have all my sigs nickeled and gunsmithed with Custom Creationz...Todd is the Man.

I ask the above question on account that I believe Sig with some care and feeding is the best and most accurate for me.

I want to get the 22 with 45 upgrade to complete my Sig Pride. Anyone know if I can get one from a dealer with all or do I have to set up a FFL in Mass?

Being in my rookie year, I wanted to ask if anyone had any insight as to what is the advantage of Double Action Only. Sorry to be such a Forrest Gump. But I heard that it's better safety if you conceal carry and it is a smoother trigger?? When you upgrade with the coupon, Is it the exact same gun as a new P220 in 45. Any difference to be considered?

Thanks in advance for any comments or insights.
Jack
