My hunting partner has an original 1897 Winchester shotgun and wants to put a sling on it. We looked at a local sporting goods store but all the leather slings looked cheap or fake. He is looking for a sling that looks more period correct and like real leather. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the link. I believe he wants something darker like a coffee color. I normally wouldn't put a sling on a shotgun either but we turkey hunt and sometimes have to hike pretty good distance. Often times up steep hills.

I can second the Latigo Sling I have one on an 1935 M99 and it looks period correct, is well made and fully adjustable.

^ Agreed. The M1907 would be appropriate for a WWI era military Model 1897 trench gun. I think would look better on any 1897, sporter or military, than a modern sling. As I recall, the M1907 has a wide range of adjustment too.

An M1907 sling would be period correct and would look pretty snappy on that M97. Hunter makes a decent one. IMA sells a very authentic looking one.

Yep. That would look cool on that vintage shotty. I'm a fan of them, having them on many of my rifles.
