someone I know asked me about this little 22 spur trigger gun.

After some careful cleaning, the bore is in great shape, it doesn't look like it was shot. there is rust and pitting on exposed surfaces, but internal parts were in remarkably good shape. with only surface rust. the leaf spring for the trigger is broken, but the hammer spring still works.

the only marks anywhere on the gun are the trigger, hammer and load gate are all marked "53"

any help in a date range would be appreciated.

Falls into the generic name of parlor pistol, Uses a very low power cartridge for pinking. They are called Floberts even if they have a different action design. A true Fliobert uses the mass of the hammer for a recoil breech, A Warnant action uses a small swivel plate that swings over the cartridge head, they all now called Flobert Parlor pistols. Unless they are in like new condition the values is south of 50 dollars. These guns were in vogue from the late 1800's until the early 1900's. Best I can do, perhaps others will have more information or more valid information.:)

It is what is commenly referred too as a 6mm Flobert parlor pistol.

Late 1800 - early 1900.
Maybe Belgium, or German, or French made?

There should be some proof-marks on it somewhere?

The Flobert cartridges were very low power BB Cap, using the primer compound with no powder to project the ball.

DO NOT attempt to shoot it with modern .22 RF Short ammo,
as it will very likely blow open and shoot your eye out.
