If you are using the load lever/rammer to push the barrel off the arbor, you should put something over the face of the cylinder. A piece of cardboard, or leather. I use a popsycle stick. The first time I took my barrel off, I put several dandy knicks across two of the chambers, and had to very carefully dress them off. Most rammers are concave to fit the ball, and that leaves a fairly sharp outside edge on it.
