Need help with ATF Form 1

I am sitting here filling out the ATF Form 1. Note: I have done Form 4s before so I am not totally new to the ATF applications.

I am going to be SBRing an 16" AR-15 that I currently own. Here are a few questions on the form itself....

4f. They ask for total length. Is that from stock to end of barrel? What would a typical 16" AR-15 measure?

4h. What are they asking for here? They ask for "Additional Description of Firearm - Include all numbers and other identifying data which will appear on firearm."

13. It says name of "Name of maker", but just above that it looks as if this is where the Sheriff will sign.

4f is from stock all the way extended to the end of the new length permanent barrel. You'll need to do math on that.

4h is asking for anything else, in this case anything else you're having engraved above/beyond your name/address.

The upper will be 7". I don't have the rifle with me. Any idea what a 7" AR-15 measures with the typical collapsable stock?

How about question 13.? That one is somewhat confusing.

7"? DPMS Kitty Kat? You'll probably have some cycling issues - I suggest a H2 buffer, if you're not using a silencer.

Anyway, question 13... that is YOUR name, as it's the CLEO saying he is indeed the CLEO in the area of residence of the following name.

15 inches with a collapsed stock to the barrel, 19 inches all the way extended.

This is measured from shoulder rest to where the barrel mates to the upper.

SBR = Short Barreled Rifle

He's putting a <16" barrel on his AR. Anything less than 16" requires ATF approval.

He is making a SBR- short barrel rifle. You need to register a rifle with a barrel shorter than 16 inches with the ATF and you must get a local CLEO- chief law enforcement officer to sign off on the form.

I have another question pop up.

Question 6b.

6. is the "Special Tax (occupational) status". 6b asks the "Class". Should I simply type in "3", or should this be N/A? What is confusing me is what is a "Special (occupational) tax"? And why is "Class" listed as a subquestion of question 6?

Correct me if I am wrong, but all I will need to send is the following:

1 Completed and CEO signed Form 1
2 Passport photos
2 Fingerprint cards
a check for $200 bucks made out to ATF.

Anything else before I send all of this off?

You need the Form 1 done in duplicate and it MUST be double-sided!

You also need two copies of the Certification of Compliance form. You can find that and the Form 1 on www.titleii.com under forms.

Write the serial number of the item on the check.

Couple other quick things...

With a 7" barrel the overall length should be 26.5".

PLEASE do NOT use a silencer with a 7" barrel. You are begging God for a baffle or end cap strike. It WILL happen. It is just a matter of when.
