Ok, so we've decided to regularize production of the .358 158 grain RNFP in our harder (18 BHN) alloy. In our normal 12 BHN configuration, this is our Cowboy #15 bullet. But a lot of folks are liking it in the harder alloy for higher velocities in their Marlin rifles than they can get with the soft alloy.

We're looking to name this new bullet. We need to keep the name to 8 characters or so in order that it will fit on the box label properly.

Our naming conventions generally address the bullet's purpose, history, or just a nominal ranking in a series, as in our Cowboy series which currently is encompassed by the range 1 through 15. I want something special for this one, because it really isn't a cowboy bullet. It's intended for rifle velocities.

I make no promises regarding the use of any sort of definable logic in picking the winning name because I am a whimsical guy. I can't help that. My formative years were unencumbered by a lot of interference from authority figures so circumstances provided me a lot of time for self-directed activities and growth. So, if I march to a different drummer, probably it's Buddy Rich. To atone for this, I am offering a free box of 500 of these bullets to the forum member who generates a name that tickles my fancy. They're on the shelf and ready to go, needing only a name to put on the labels.

Any takers? :)

Brad

I'd like to cast my totally impartial and unbiased vote for "The Kingpin". :D

EDIT - Shucks, missed the 8 letter requirement. Ya'll need new boxes!
EDIT x2 - Hey wait, just "Kingpin" would work just fine. It's fate I tell ya. :)

CASS 158

CASS = Cowboy Action Super Sonic ... and I'm sure everyone knows the acronym's other meaning.

:)

It sounds like it is a smaller version of the 44 Smasher. I would just call it the "357 Smasher" or "Little Smasher"

How about "HC #16" for High Country" cause a cowboy would be more likely to use his rifle in the high country for game

Or, "Big Sky" because it would shoot farther and be suitable for big sky country

Or, "LG #16" for Lever Gun

I was looking at your rifle bullets and they have names like #1 Carbine, #1 Whitetail and #1 Buffalo.

In keeping with that mindset why not #1 Magnum or #2 Carbine.
Maybe even #1 Marlin but I think the Winchester guys would get upset even though the name would be too long... lol

I also like some of the above lever references. How about #1 Levergun since that's what you are casting it for?

Well, The two ideas I had seem to have already been used now that I scroll down - "Lever 94" or "Marlin." Both would be good. The other one I had in mind if you didn't want to associate with a brand like that is:

SASS #15

Since that's where a lot of them will end up and the buyers will enjoy the connection.
