I'm having troubles with my Rock Island Armory 1911 9mm. About 1 out of 5 times I get a jam. The spent casing is not getting ejected. Do I have an extractor problem? Is this something I can fix or do I need to take it to a smith?

This photo shows what happens, the case does not get ejected, slide gets stuck.

The case isn't being extracted, not ejected. Remember, the extractor is the claw that rips the rounds out of the chamber, the ejector is the finger pointing forward that bonks the extracted empty off the breech-face/extractor claw and out the ejection port.

And listen to 1911Tuner, one of these days he'll start charging for remote troubleshooting.

Knowing what rounds you're using might help, if adjusting the extractor's spring tension doesn't do the trick.

Had the same problem with my Spartan. Tuner's right on. If you go to youtube, search STI International, and they have a great video on tuning the extractor. If that doesn't work, then the hook is too small, and you'll need a new extractor. Again, like Tuner stated.
Mine needed to be bent A LOT. The 9mm cartridge doesn't have much of a rim to grab, so the extractor needs to be really tight.
