My Bushmaster, Rockriver, and Rockriver with a Stag upper are all fine guns. The Bushmaster is great. I can't see why anyone has a problem with Bushmaster.

Ummmm Riiiiiight. Oly has one of the worst reps on the market. There are a couple very ling threads on Arf.com about why they should be avoided. Both the company and the product are pretty crappy.

and how many have you owned???? oly flirted with cast receivers for a short bit but quickly went back to forged-

how old are you? 15?

The aforementioned BCM would be under a grand. As would a LMT or even a S&W. All of those are far superior to a Bushmaster, RRA, or DPMS.

The AR market has tanked. Really good guns are inexpensive now. There is no reason to buy second rate equipment.

Cyclopsshooter, nice attempt to discredit me and insult me by throwing out an age based comment. But I am old enough to have owned a number of ARs over the years. Including Olympic. My experience with them was enough to know what a bad product and a bad company they are. It has nothing to do with the old Cast receivers and everything to do with bad parts, bad assembly, and bad customer service.
Don't believe me? Check out these comments and the others like it over at ARF.com.

nice attempt to discredit me and insult

just judging you accordingly...

my oly's made in 99 and 04 have been flawless- a bushmaster i owned jammed constantly- despite the bushies problems i dont flame the company as a whole- look, toyota has had a great rep but sometimes crap happens-

i sell olympics in my store and deal with the company regularly- service is top notch, barrels are top notch, fit and finish is quite nice... though, i grant you that i have seen some where the finish wasn't so nice but it seems more an exception than a rule

I love my S&W M&P15 PC. A friend of mine has a Bushmaster that always has a problem with it. Either FTF or FTE it just doesnt run right. I can blow through 300+ rounds and have no problem like any AR should be able to do. Thats they I stayed away from them when I was looking for my AR. In hind sight I should have looked to other companies but here in NJ its hard to get something that fits all the damn laws

OK, Here's how to have a tier 1 rifle for well under $1000.00.

Step 1: buy a Spikes Tactical complete lower here for $275.00 (check out the upgrades you get for the $$!)

http://www.spikestactical.com/z/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=104_114&products_id=86

Step 2: buy a Bravo Co. upper, bolt carrier group and charging handle here For $570 (check the rep of this company at ar15.com. NO ONE makes a better MILSPEC AR than BCM)

http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-M4-16-Upper-Receiver-Group-p/bcm-urg-m4-16.htm

As long as you are there, pick up a set of hanguards for $23.00

Step 3: pick up the lower from your FFL with No sales tax unless you live in FL.

The rest arrives at your door via UPS.

Step 4: assemble your rifle. Total cost $868 + S&H.

Also, by not purchasing a complete rifle you avoid paying about $200 federal exise tax.

No Tools or building is required here. you are not going beyond routine field stripping. Other than the handguards (which can be difficult the first time on) the rest of the rifle will assemble in about 10 Seconds.

^$625-675 seem fair.

I have a Del-Ton 16" upper and it is top notch. The gas key isproperly staked, fit and finish throughout is very impressive. Accuracy has been superb with the EOTECH. No mechanical issues whatsoever.

To be brief.........no. It will slightly reduce wear and tear on internal components but that benefit would only be realized after many many thousands of rounds. You would have the advantage of a longer sighting plane.

Most guys on this board and others are going with 16's because of manueverability, but also because they look more ninja-like. :)

If YOU like it then great. Take a trip to a gunshop and hold both bbl lengths side by side. There is also an 18" bbl out there if you still can't make up your mind.

SHOP and PRICE CHECK! Then buy the one you want. Stag, Bush, Rock River, can all be had for under 1000.00. I hear people who love and hate one brand over another. How many of us have had hands on with all the brands.
Make sure your gas key is staked and you got a black donut on your extractor, then go have some fun.

+1 to steve58. I have handled Spike's Tactical ar's and spoke to several owners at the ranges. They run and can be had in many configurations for 1000.00 Don't forget the LOGO.

The reason I am asking about this one in particular is because I could get it in trade with no money out of my pocket. If I give the go ahead a guy will trade his 1911 for it and than I will trade him my Mini 14 for the AR. My mini 14 is a reliable and decently accurate rifle (<2moa). I am concerned about trading it for a jamomatic. I know there are many good reliable ARs out there but I am concerned about Del-ton. Should I just pass it up or are DTI uppers not all that bad? I will have to get rid of my Mini to get an AR but I don't know much about this one. Will DTI be ammo picky as well?

After looking at and reading the entire interweb, talking to friends, reps, and family, I purchased on Saturday 1 RRA entry tacticle for $975 otd... Shoots 2 moa groups at 100 yds after break in with open sights. Watch out prairie dogs come spring!

Cyclops you are either lucky or Oly loves you. Because your stories fly in the face of pretty much everyone I know. Neither Oly nor BM have that great of a Rep and there is a reason for that. I will spend the extra 100 bucks and buy a rifle from a company more known for reliability.
