Looking for a heavy barrel 223 Rem. Prefer a Hogue type stock or Laminated.
Varmint or target style gun.
I currently have a Weatherby Sporter in Walnut which is very accurate but want something in a heavy barrel that does not heat up as fast.

ever thought about using the search function???

That question has been beat to death on this and every other shooting forum I can think of.....

Well then don't reply. If you think about it, I doubt there is any question that has not been asked or answered, so therefore there is no need for any forums of any kind because the answer is out there somewhere.

Yes, this has been beat to death but you asked so here's an answer.

I recently purchased a Remington 700 SPS Varmint Stainless in .22-250. My friend purchased the same rifle back in May with the difference being his is blued. I didn't like the rifle to begin with as the stock wasn't free floated. So, why did I buy a rifle that has a terrible stock? I plan on replacing it with a B&C which will work much better. My friend did this and now his rifle shoots some really nice groups.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Remington 700 as long as it had a wood stock or was the 700 SF VS that comes with a HS stock. But I wouldn't buy the SPS without changing the stock to something else.

That said I do own a Savage 10fp in .223. The stock is a bit flimsy, but the barrel is free floating and accuracy is pretty darn good. Savage makes a decent rifle at a very reasonable price.

Before I settled on the 700 VS in .22-250 I was considering a Savage 12 FV. I only picked the Remington over it because it was stainless and on sale. I paid as much for a stainless rifle as I could buy a blue model for.

I've owned a Ruger but it wasn't accurate. It shot some pretty bad groups for being a target model.

I have a friend that owns a Weatherby. His gun was very expensive but very accurate.

I'm not a fan of CZ but have heard good things about them.

My Howa 1500 .223 Varmint Supreme has proven to be both quite durable and, when I do my part, amazingly accurate. A great range gun, but not one I would want to tote around the field all day. And, FWIW, I have no problem with your post. Much more preferable than the "What would John Wayne shoot today..." drivel posted on gun sites these days.

I have been pondering the same thing and I have finally made up my mind. I am going with the Savage Model 10 Precision Carbine.

Good Luck,
David

I was originally going to go with another Weatherby but they only have 1:12 twist so I have to shoot the lighter bullets. I would rather be able to go with heavier or the same as my AR. I also like the Savage but never owned one. I do not want a enclosed mag. Either a floor plate or a detachable box.
I have a CZ 452 American 22lr and it is a tack driver. I think they are some of the best rifles right out of the box.
