Hi Guys, since the forum is rich in info, you guys can help. I am looking for a small framed (like a 'baby' glock G30) pistol. Since I live in MA, I cannot purchase a glock, and alot of others either such as SA.

So, could I get some opinions on other smaller type semi's? Does Ruger make anything in that small range...SW? I do not want to spend huge bucks just for a pocket gun, but of course want a quality item. I was thinking Sigma series, but not sure. I have a P220, so a 45 would be great.

Let me know, thanks, :)

Kel-Tek

I don't know if you can get them in MA.

The P-11 is a small 9mm with a 10 or 12 rd mag (the 12 rd fits flush and used to be LE only but is now available to civilians). I pocket carry mine in a Jagwear pocket holster with a non-print panel in the front pocket of Docker style pants and in shorts.

If you need smaller, the P3AT is .380 and is easilly carried in just about any pocket.

Yes it is bit expensive but considering you can't buy new owns in MA, it is well worth it.

Buy it, shoot it and it will still be worth the same or more money down the road.

$550 is actually a "reasonable" MA price when you consider what even used 26's go for in gun shops.

There aren't many subcompacts available in MA but I don't consider the G26 a pocket gun so your size range of what one is must differ from mine. The 9000S is significantly larger than the Glock, especially in width;I don't think I could comfortably pocket carry mine but some people claim to carry a full sized 1911 or Glock in their front pocket...they must just be a bunch bigger than me.SW and Walther 99 polymer subcompacts are available new,so that's one alternative. S&W also has the CS series, which would get you your .45.There's no longer a pocket sized Sigma available and by all accounts that's a good thing. There aren't any sub-compact Rugers and even though they're made here, nothing but used Kahrs for you.If you're into 1911's,you could look into a new Warthawg. No new Taurus or KelTec pistols available here either. If you're looking for a true pocket gun, about the only new option is a Seecamp .32.I bought 2 of them and they're certainly easy to conceal and excellent quality but the 5 seconds of laziness it saves me to stick one in my pocket doesn't balance out how much more faith I have in say,my P239 or J frame that really aren't much harder to carry 90% of the time.

Dumb question of the day. If the selection sucks in Mass, why not drive up to New Hampshire where they have much friendlier gun laws? As far as I know, there is no law about buying a gun out of state.

Before calling a question dumb please do a little research. Federal law does in fact prohibit the sale of handguns to an individual outside his or her state of residence.

I was calling my own question dumb, because I assumed it was a dumb question. I was under the impression that it was perfectly legal to buy a gun out of state as long as you purchased it through a legally licensed dealer. I did a little more reading and have a different question. Why not buy the gun at an out of state dealer and have it shipped to an FFL in your home state, where you can then get a transfer?

The problem there is he'd have to transfer it back to a Mass FFL, and that FFL legally couldn't transfer it to him I reckon.

Mass has some downright bizarre laws especially on handguns. I don't pretend to know all the specifics.

Ahh, my apologies, thank you for clarifying. Yep, Mass has some weird laws. Well I guess they aren't even laws really. Their gun restrictions are a so-called consumer protection ruling by the state AG, which under their weird state laws he has the power to do. It's a really ridiculous situation, and I feel bad for the MA residents who have to put up with it.

Isn't there a mini-Sig, a 245? Seems it would go perfect with your 220.

Kel-Tec was on the "unsafe" list in 2001 when I lived there. S&W M&P compact should be out soon, that should be compliant. Also if you post a WTB "pre-98 Glock" on some forums, you're bound to find a regular priced Glock. That's how I found my G30 when I lived in MA. I paid $450 for it and sold it for the same price to another MA resident when I moved to a free state. Have you given the small J Frames a thought? I know they are compliant.

Keep them coming...

Thanks for the reply's thus far. Yes MA is strange, if I could buy an out of state pistol, I would. The guns must be sent to a dealer for registering and transfer first though. Trust me, I have looked at loop-holes in the system...most involve the word Straw...others are transproting across state lines.

Now, I could do that, but it is clearly not worth the trouble I would be in just to have a small semi. The AG here is in fact a boob.

My local guy tells me he sells tons of Sigma series psitols...you guys have any comments on those. He will have one in next week I can look at. Not sure. A small Sig would be great...but really expensive. I wanted something 300-450 bucks or so.

Thanks, :D

What happens if you move to Mass and own a bunch of guns they don't like?

That's fine, you can bring pretty much anything into MA provided you get your LTC. I called the State Police/Criminal History System Board prior to moving here, asked about what I could bring ( everything I had), if I had to register it ( no,but recommended in case they were stolen) and if I'd be able to trade/transfer.The trooper explained to me that you can sell any unlisted post 98 handgun to another person as a private sale but it isn't lawful for a gun shop to buy that firearm/take it on trade and resell it to a MA resident. For handguns that aren't on the approved list, you need to have proof that they were in MA pre-98 to trade/sell them through a dealer. It's all fairly dumb...and has nothing at all to do with most of the handguns used in crime in MA and the AG admits it:rolleyes:

How about...

...one of these little jewels. Or have they outlawed curios and relics,
and American History in Mass., too?

Walter

are you saying if you live in mass and know someone who moves to mass and owns weapons that cannot be sold in mass, they can sell them to you?

Kel-Tec P3AT if you can...

Failing that - maybe a Bersa Thunder .380 (PPK clone, VERY nice quality gun!)...or a snub .38? (no experience with the latter myself)

Failing THAT? MOVE to someplace where you can actually OWN a concealable handgun, and let the commies HAVE their crummy state! :p

EDIT - can't you buy a Glock because of lock requirements? When I got my G19 earlier this year, it mentioned how to operate the internal lock on SOME models (IE, commie-states? ;), back in the grip where some people "plug" it IIRC....

(I don't think even a baby Glock would be my 1st choice for a POCKET gun anyhow...)
