Pleasant surprise today pocket-carrying a Glock .45

I have not been a huge fan of the Glock 36, the slimline .45. It is a little snappy in recoil so it's not that comfortable to shoot. It holds only 7 rounds while it's big brother the G30 carries 11 rounds in only a slightly larger package.

I figured I would be carrying my Kel-tec PF9 today because my attire mandated pocket carry. So you can see why I was a little surprised this morning when I slipped the Glock 36 into my front pants-pocket on a whim. Would you believe it fit pretty well? (And any other gun geeks out there will understand when I say I was wearing Bugle Boy khakis. If you've tried pocket carry in these pants, you know their pockets aren't ideal because they're a little on the small side.) My G36 resided in a Desantis Nemesis from which it is easily drawn.

Now it didn't disappear like the PF9 does, so it looked like I was maybe carrying a wallet in my pocket, but it didn't bother me at all today and of course no one noticed at all. I usually contend that Glocks just aren't small enough for pocket carry. But I found today that under certain circumstances, some of their pistols can in fact be carried that way.

There are some shorts at Target that have a great pocket for carrying, do well with my Glock 27. Is the 36 slimmer than the 27?

Its nice and small, its single stack. I'm working on getting one shortly to carry so that my G26 can stay at home or be carried as a secondary weapon.

Is the 36 slimmer than the 27?

NG, effectively they're the same width. Here's why I say that: My G36 fits perfectly into the molded kydex holster fitted for my G23 (same width as the 27). Snaps into place... fits just as securely, etc. So while there may be some variability in the stated width from Glock, in effect, they're the same or they wouldn't fit the same holster perfectly. On the other hand, that G36 is just almost identical in size to that G23, so there's no question your G27 is considerably smaller and should be easier to carry. That's probably my next foray... carrying the G27 in my pocket.

Sure does feel nice to have a Glock on tap even if you can't carry on your waist.
