( I wasn't sure which sub-forum was most ideal for this question, I'd really have liked to have also placed this in "rifles" to get more ballanced responses, but since that ain't acceptable, I flipped a coin :D).

There's a local guy with a Sig Sauer 1911 TACOPS pistol, looking to trade for several things, including a converted Saiga, which I have, and can spare.
I got the Saiga from Classicarms back when they were $249, had it converted and parkerized by a local smith, and it's a fantastic shooter.
Also, this trade would not leave me "AK-less".
I've owned one Sig before and know what great stuff they tend to make, and the brief search I did on them came back very positive.
But, I thought it couldn't hurt to ask around a little. As always, any info, advice, opinions, warnings, recommendations, etc. are muchly appreciated.....:thumb:

Is this a straight trade? I don't follow AK prices but it seems that the raw dollar numbers would favor the 1911 over the AK.
If so then I'd do it in a heartbeat but then I'd much rather have a nice 1911 than a nice AK.

The Tacops is great 1911, where one AK is pretty much like any other despite what the "high quality" AK purveyors would have you believe.

Jump on it before he comes to his senses :)

I'm not sure I'd do it. Isn't the "Tac Ops" SIG's most basic 1911?

Either way, I think I'd rather have an AK that's a great shooter than a mid-range 1911, even if the dollar value was better with the pistol. I probably wouldn't do it unless I planned to sell the pistol and buy a new rifle and pocket the leftovers. But that's a bit of a gamble.

Sounds like a deal I would go for, especially if you already have another AK and are getting a decent 1911 in return.

Personally, I'd keep the AK. Contrary to what some folks are saying, all AKs are not created equal, and a well-converted Saiga is a fine rifle, whereas a Tac Ops is a middle-of-the road 1911.

This.

Run a Century Arms WASR against a converted Saiga. You'll see, hear, and feel a difference. They'll both run, oh yes, but it's like comparing a DPMS Sportical to a 6920. Look alike, operate the same, but the refinement isn't there.

Would I trade a Saiga for a 1911? Yes, but not a Sig. Colt Series 70, S&W with scandium frame, Remington R1 enhanced, Springer Loaded...but I'm not sure a Sig, Desert Eagle, Thompson, and definitely not Kimber, Para, or Ruger.

hmmmm, I'm learning something here...maybe this isn't as straightforward as I initially thought...

good luck! :)

Long term I think your well converted Saiga is going to retain more value, if not increase in value. Unconverted, as imported, Saigas have greatly increased in price over the last few years. Good conversions have fluctuated in value, but have gone up overall. I anticipate they'll continue to appreciate in value.

SIG 1911s are like Kimbers with external extractors: Middle of the road, decent, but nothing special. Keep your Saiga, and save up for a better make and model if you want a 1911.

Also, other than revolvers, 7/8 round single stack magazine pistols are the most politically safe handguns (and among the most politically safe of all firearms) you can get.
