My first post, and it's a desperate plea for help. I am a pistol guy, rifles and scopes are new to me.

Ok, I picked up a scope last night on a whim. It's a Bushnell Banner 1-4x32mm. I will be mounting it on my new 10/22. Is this a good scope? I was playing with it today, and I am really not too happy with the magnification on it. I am supposed to take it back to the shop to have it mounted and bore sighted for free, but I am having second thoughts. Should I return it and look elsewhere? I need to decide fast.

Oh yea, I will not be hunting with the 10/22, it's strictly for target. I would like to spend about $100 on optics (cheap, I know, but I may upgrade later)

Any advice would be great, thanks guys

:)

Doesn't sound like a bad choice to me. Many of the higher power scopes are adjusted to be parallax free at ranges to great for use on a 22. I'd be more worried about getting that right. It should be listed in the spec sheet somewhere. For use on a 22, you'd want it to be around the 10-yard range.

You might try posting/searching on this BOARD about rimfire eqt for a better starting point.

I went with the Weaver 4X Rimfire, and I have to say that it's a real bargain for the $100 I paid SWFA for it. I did a short review on it last summer, I think.

I would take it back.

You can get a Simmons 6X20 or a 9X12.

With a 22, shooting targets, the more magnification the better.

If you wanted to hunt under 200 yards the lower magnification scope and its light weight are good.

MrP;

I don't know what 3gun's doing, but I hunt with my .22's. Typical ranges run from 10 to 125 yards on gophers here in Montana. I prefer a variable of moderate magnification with an adjustable objective ( A/O ).

Currently my .22's are scoped with: 1. Simmons Whitetail 4 X 12 A/O. Have had this on the gun for years, it's tough, reliable and has excellent optics. 2. Weaver V-16 FCH 4 X 16 A/O. This is on a custom .22 & gives superb accuracy. It's a little big for a pure walking around gun & I rarely use the very high end of the magnification range except when I'm at the range. 3. Tasco 2.5 X 10 A/O mil-dot. This scope is going to be replaced. The optics are good, the repeatability on the turret adjustments isn't there. Probably going to try the Simmons 44Mag 3 X 10 A/O mil-dot. The Simmons will cost about twice as much, but you get what you pay for & I shoulda known better.
