I usually carry a S&W 642 in an IWB holster. Let me back up first. I'm an older man, 5'10" and 230 lbs (I worked hard to get those pounds too! ;)). Sometimes, in the summer I also carry a Ruger LCPin .380.

I wanted something a little more stout, so I subsequently picked up a Sig P250C in 9mm. I haven't carried the Sig yet, but have put a few hundred rounds through it at the range. What I'm not comfortable with is the long trigger pull. I shoot lots of revolvers, but for some reason I can't get comfortable with the P250 trigger as much as I'm forcing myself to try.

What do some of you recommend? XDs in 45? Glock 19? What do those of you, built similar to me carry? How do you carry and in what holster? How does it hide? What about accuracy? Round count?

Thanks for the help.

Hey Mugsie, I have a 642 with pachmayr compac grips and it's about the same length from the back of the grips to the end of the barrel and about the same height as my Glock 19 or my 30SF. I CCW both. I'm 5'10" and 145lbs so not just like you, but I don't have any trouble concealing them. I really would recommend the 19 if you can get good trigger reach. I've put 4,082rds(I know that round count is right because I record the amount at the end of each range trip) though my 19 with only three fte (reloads), one failure to fire ( it was under water!:D) it had a light primer strike. I carry the 19 in either a Sidearmor IWB holster or Bianchi carryloc OWB holster. As far as accuracy I'm not the best shot but can keep 10rds on a 8by11 piece of paper at 20yds shooting off hand slowly. I run a NY1 trigger spring in both my Glocks helps me go from all three easier. Tend to carry two Glock 17 mags on opposite hip helps balance better, It's easier to carry that way for me. On a side note I really like the Tru glow TFO sights I got for it. Hope this helps.

Fullsize: DW Valor 1911. The 1911 is the only fullsize I can conceal.
Compact/midsize: Glock 19 or 23. 4" 1911 like a DW Vbob or CCO.
Supcompact: Glock 26, Dan Wesson ECO.
Mini: Kahr p380, but that's smaller than I would want to defend myself with.

I use Crossbreed Supertucks for IWB, and Ravens for OWB.

I'd like to try a LB Commanche or Stinger and a Springy XDS.

I'm not built like you, but others I've trained have down well with my setups. You can't ever go wrong with a Glock 19.

I'm partial to the Rohbaugh R9 in a pocket holster, I also like the PM9 / CM9

If I wanted to go a little bigger I'd probably get a Walther PPS - especially since you expressed some concern about the long trigger pull of your Sig, the Walther PPS has a generally good trigger IMO.

My review of the R9:

If you don't like a long trigger pull, then the CM9 or PM9 isn't going to make you very happy. They are DAO pistols and have a long, albeit it nice, trigger pull. That being said, I like my PM9.

I CCW the XDs45 in a nice OWB holster. My life style allows a cover garment virtually any time so it works well for me. I carry a few pounds more than I need and don't like IWB holsters.

More details can be found in the handgun area on my site.

I'm surprised that you found the SIG 250 trigger so different from that on your 642.

The first recommendation that comes to mind is the gun that replaced my 642 for EDC...the Kahr CW9

I am 5/11 & about 205 . I tend to carry a automatic on my right hip. I like my S&W. S.D.9. It didn't cost a lot and is a great pistol for O.C.or C.C.! If something happens to the gun I am not out a lot of money & can replace it quickly! In the winter a big coat pocket will work but I prefer to carry in holster on R.hip. The S.D. is about the same size as a Glock 19 & cost about $200 less new. Good warranty &C.S. from a company that builds them here in the U.S.A.!JMO.

I'm your size, 6'1"/225#s, and for IWB carry it's mostly 1911s or a BHP. Square slides, like Glocks, rub against my hip bone and are uncomfortable for IWB carry. A Steyr M40-A1 is also comfortable for IWB, but it doesn't have a square shaped slide.

When the temps cool off requiring multi outer layered clothing, I wear a Bianchi clamshell shoulder rig with a S&W M686+, but my requirements are different than most. :)

You've got three inches and a hundred pounds on me, so I can't imagine you having any more trouble concealing a CZ PCR than I do.

A lot of people complain about the long trigger reach--maybe not the pull--but I don't feel it, and I don't even have large hands.

Try one out if you can. Maybe it'll click for you like it did me, or you just might find it too different from your revolvers.

If trigger pull is a priority go glock or m&p. you will need a dcaek or apex trigger if you go m&p. or go compact 1911 like springfield emp... I feel if you try carrying a g19 it's the best all around gun. I have an xd45 as well it's great quality but that g19 is sweet. Go g19'if you don't mind the size. Get a wilderness belt, a good Jayden hybrid holster and you are gtg.

FWIW, my EDC consists of several factors. Temperature/weather and what my routine will be on a given day. It usually evolves around a Glock 33, KelTec PF9, P40, P32 or my newly acquired Glock 36. If I think a bigger caliber might be in order my Glock 29 with G20 mags gets the nod.

We're about the same size. My EDC is a 1955 Colt LW Commander in a 38 Super.

I have a number of carry options but have been carrying a P250 sub compact for over six months. It has the smoothest trigger of anything I've shot including my Smith Wesson 686. Are you resting the last joint of your trigger finger over the trigger? Just asking.

You are certainly right about the trigger pull length. Fortunately for me I am able to work the P250 as rapidly and accurately as anything else I own. Several hundred rounds should be enough to adjust.

I am 5'-8"/205# and I regularly conceal a Hi Power or a S&W M&P 40c with ease. Both are nearly invisible under a relatively loose untucked T shirt or polo. While bigger overall, the BHP is much more comfortable IWB than the M&P.

I carry a PM9 and xds, haven't got around to sending it in for the fix yet. I need another small gun before I do, I don't like IWB my Glocks as a 2nd gun, and I am carrying the PM in the pocket, it's the best small 9 out there for the money
