I have a bunch of brass ready and a Win mod 70 in .243
I'd like to load some 100 gr Hornady Interlock bullets
Powders on hand

IMR 4350
Benchmark
AR Comp
Hodgdon Leverevolution ( unlikely ... I know )

I haven't tried IMR 4350 but know I can use it. Suggested
Starting load is 38.5 gr
Max is 42.0 gr

Benchmark seems to be useful with the lighter .243 bullets, and because I have these others, AR Comp and Hodgdon Leverevolution, I only post them to see if anyone else has used them sucessfully in a .243 Win model 70.
I'm not crazy enough to try them of course without good info.

So, if you load 100 gr bullets for a Win 70 in .243, please tell me your most accurate powder load for IMR 4350. If you have safely tried these other powders with success using 100 gr bullets, please let me know.

IMR 4350 I'm getting MOA at 38.5 gn. with a 100 gn Hornady BTSP out of my Ruger American. I know, not Win 70, sorry, but haven't found one in .243 for a reasonable price around here.
This is a load I'm still fiddling with trying to improve. Higher charges are next. I consider it 300 yd accurate for hunting, but not currently one to show off with. Maybe another bullet would be worth my time.

I appreciate that splatter! I am pretty sure I have 1-10 twist rate and I think your Ruger American is 1-9. Not too different there. Yours may be a tad more accurate with 100 gr bullets. I'll probably load up some lower end IMR 4350 levels and see if it likes 38.5 to 40 gr.

Everyone I know who loads for the .243 with heavier bullets uses 4831. Accuracy usually very good and velocity is higher than with most powders helping with a flatter trajectory at distances.

That said, I have been reading about the newer IMR Enduron powders doing a very good job with accuracy. I can't say for sure, I have not tried any yet. IMR4955 is right next to IMR4831 on the burn rate chart so that might be the new powder to try. It is supposed to be temperature insensitive, clean burning, minimizes copper fouling. (according to IMR of course lol)

My 100gr .243 load is 41.5gr of IMR4350.
However, not all .243's are alike. Start at 38.0, work up 0.5gr at a time.
I prefer Sierra bullets for accuracy.

Loaded 26 cartridges
I'll warm up the barrel with a 39 gr IMR 4350 load COL 2.635 100 gr Hornady Interlock
Loaded 5 of each
38.0
38.5
39.0
39.5
40.0
When I get to the range I'll post a report and pic of my target.
Thanks all!

I have great results with 4350 and 4895 in my old 700 Remington, with both 100 and 70 grain bullets. It shoots a lot straighter than I can hold.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Works well.

I have had good results with IMR-4350 and IMR-4831 with 90gr-100gr. bullets. The most accurate load so far has been 95gr Ballistic Silvertip or a 90gr Speer HotCor over 4350. Both loads shoot sub-MOA.

You will have to work up your own loads. Mine are near Max.

please tell me your most accurate powder load for IMR 4350

I have tried IMR 4831, IMR 4350, IMR 4064 and Hybrid 100v for the 100gr 243win combination. IME, the best results were with IMR 4831 and 100gr flat base bullets. IMR 4350 can attain reasonable groups, but I would suggest working up to just under Hodgdon's max load, as that is where the groups seem to tighten up. With boattails, you may want to test at a distance longer than 100yds, depending on results and twist rate. Also, as you get closer to max, watch for pressure signs during the workup, as 243 is generally more prone to spike. Flat or cratered primers and sticky bolt handles can occur within published data in some rifles.

Range report

Well I finally got out to test these loads.
The 40 gr batch target is missing, It must have got thrown away when we cleaned up before leaving the range today, but I do remember a nice perfect V shaped 1 3/4 inch spread 1 inch below the bullseye in the orange.

That would do fine. All my shots were pretty much hitting an inch or 2 low.
It appears the 38.5 and 39.5 gr using IMR 4350 loads turned out best. The 39.5 being better than the two of those.
I think I am going to load up my cases with 39.8 gr , move my crosshair down an inch and a half.
Not too shabby for 100yds and an old goat like me.

Sigsmoker, unless the barrel in your Win M70 is shot out you should be getting better groups. Please do yourself a favor and give 4831 a try before you shoot a whole box of bullets trying to find a good 4350 load.

I am using h4831SC for 85+ and loving the results, If I'm using 100gr (which I haven't shot in awhile) I use Sierra pro hunters, I prefer the flatbase for accuracy, and at 100 gr velocities in my .243 my distance shots on deer are 350Max.........also on the 1:10 twist they're only 1.041" long, the only 100 gr I can find shorter are the old round noses. While you CAN use 4350 for .243 100gr loads, I can't find a reason to buy it. Sierra shows imr4350 with 100 gr at 35.2 36.8 38.5 40.1 41.7 at (respectively) 2500, 2600, 2700, 2800, 2900fps hodgdon says imr4350 Max is 42gr. Sorry I couldn't help with experience on the topic. Using Sierra data my (not yours) guns like em close to the 2ND or 3rd from the top most often landing somewhere inbetween.

OK, 4831 is the way to go. If you guys say so, I believe you. With my groups here, we should take into account, the shooter factor too.
I could have maybe concentrated more and done a tad better. I am sure I could have.
For me, I was actually feeling pretty good about it.
Now I guess I should "raise the bar" some and get em closer.
The 243 is expected to do better I suppose.
All I was trying to do was get the best load out of my powder on hand but if you guys think I could easily shrink this down to half size or better with 4831 then I suppose it's worth getting a pound of it.
Naw, the rifle ain't shot out.

You may want to work a few more grains up. Our 243's always worked best at the maximum with both 4350 and H 414.

Never was impressed by 4831 in the 243. 4350 was the best until I tried some H 414 both in accuracy and velocity.

I run 39gr of IMR 4350 behind 100gr Hornady Interlocks in my wife's gun (Savage 110, 1:9.25 twist). She can shoot just under MOA off the bench with that load.

She took down a mule deer buck Saturday with that load. 150 yd shot. Dropped like a rock!

I had a 10 twist M70 in .243, and it really didn't care for heavier bullets. I finally found an H4350 load for 95gr BTs that shot nice, but it really preferred the lighter bullets. You might try 85gr Sierra hpbt Gamekings with 4350, my M70 loved that bullet and would shoot tiny little groups with MVs just shy of 3200fps.
