If they did, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

Possibly more than one. And a 5.56 NATO model, to use milsurp ammo. That would be wonderful as well.

I hope they realize that this will, of course, be banned in California...

P'man
The 50 cal ban in Kalipornia is cartridge and chamber specific, some folks were talking about making a short chambered 50 BMG and calling it the 50FUCA

Back to topic I would love to have one or a 45 colt reamed out to the new 460 S&W mag.

I wish they would come back out with the 357's and make them with a tighter throat.

Now if they would just make one in 7.62X39
If they did, I'd buy one in a heartbeat

This was posted over at Yahoo's BoSSRifles Group on 12/11.

I called h&r customer service yesterday to check on the barrel
ass. program and found out that they are offering some new cals.for
next year. If memory serves me right they are 480 ruger,7.62x39, 204
ruger and another big pistol cal(memory failed again..lol). On the
down side they said they were dropping the 357 mag. I inquired if
they might offer some medium bores like the 35 rem. ,358 win or in a
perfect world 8mm mauser, but i was told that costomer demand
determines the new cals.,and not much call for the 35's & 8mm's
Speaking of demand they also said that they were considering
expanding there factory due to growing demand for there product. TC
better look out they might be in trouble..lol

thanks JSH

Ya know, these are Great little rifles. I have shot ones in .270, and .223, and darn it, they shoot GOOD. I am impressed. With one initial purchase, and then some extra barrrels, its good, inexpensive way, to build a stable if rifles for about any need. Extra barrels, fitted to your frame at the factory, seem to run between $82, and $103. Try to beat that.

I asked a friend of mine what on earth one would use a Handi-Rifle in .500 S&W for, as I couldn't imagine a serious use for one. His response:

It's to shoot up all that .50 S&W ammo you bought with the revolver, without destroying your wrist and nerves. (Damn I'm good!)

:D

a little off topic, but I heard someone is making a Glaser Safety slug or something like that for the 500. WHY?

I think I read this in the feb 2005 Combat Handguns at the supermarket.

From the revolver the 400 grn 500 S&W is only 158 ft lbs of energy short of the 150 grn 308 out of a rifle. I would imagine out of a rifle the 500 wouldn't be too bad for a brush gun or bear defense gun. There is still the problem of over two dollars a round to deal with but this novelty at least is practical from an energy standpoint.

nipprdog, $120 is how much I see NEF Handi rifles going for here in MA. Maybe the prices are higher where you are??

I meant that it would only be a bit more to just get a complete rifle rather than another barrel.

used?

the rimfire models can be had for that price, new, but dealer cost on new centerfires is over $160.

being an owner of 2 handis, and having spent the last couple years participating in a couple NEF forums, the best price I have seen on new centerfire handis is $187 through walmart. (bought mine from local dealer)

if there is a shop selling new centerfire Handis for $120, plleeeaaaaassseeee give me their phone number!

That's pretty easily solved by reloading. I just did a batch to my taste for $32.50 per 100.

As an aside, while buying the reloading equipment I was trying to get by as cheap as I can and bought some used stuff from a cop down in Florida who bought it all new and then decided not to reload for it. He said he's actually carrying a 4-inch as his off-duty weapon. We talked about it for some time as I didn't believe him but it appears that he's actually doing it. FWIW.

Have a good one,
Dave
