Wanting to get a 1911. Have a lead on a Springer TRP. Alot of $$$ though. Have a freind trying to sell a Charles Daly and an Auto Ordanance. How are the later 2 pistols as far as functioning and reliablity? Big difference in $$$ I know.

apples and oranges

...or at least BMW vs VW rabbit...
TRP is a great gun, up there with some of the semi-customs.
I have never shot Daily or Auto-Ord but here is what I have heard about them.
You might try m1911.org 's forums and look under AutoOrdinance or Charles Daily and see what the owners have to say though.
I have only heard of one person totally happy with and willing to carry their Charles Daily. I hear they are either OK, or total crap, depending on your luck. No positive Auto Ordinance stories that I know of. If you want a less expensive 1911 get a springfield GI or Mil Spec. 400-500 dollar range for a gun that won't quit. Search 1911Tuner's posts for his GI torture test. And Springfield has a lifetime warranty.
I personally was lucky enough to find a norinco... with all wilson parts! :) ~Nathan

I'd go with the Springer TRP~!:) Yes, I know its lots of money; but its like
the difference in driving a BMW and a Yugo (below a VW rabbit:D ). The
TRP does rank right up their with the semi custom 1911's, and shoots
like a dream. If its really too steep in price for you, you many want to
consider the Springer MC Operator, as its another fine pistol from the
good folk's at Springfield Armory.;)

Use good magazines, have a smith do reliability work, and a Charles Daly will never jam. With 2.5" at 25 yard patterns from a ransom rest, accuracy will not be stellar, but it will be plenty good enough.

Rock Island also makes a great 1911 and with a little work can and will perform with the other top dogs. If you are wanting a steller gun out of the box go with the Springer TRP. If you want to save some cash and do some custom work yourself then you can't beat the rock. Below is a pic of my rock when I was finished with it.
