Too many good choices were covered by the term "Other" so that is how I voted.

Savage seems to be Popular any model.

Weatherby Vanguard Excellent gun, Walmart priced, with the Weatherby name.

Howa Lightening, Weatherby Vanguard in sheep's clothing. That is to say Howa makes the Vanguard for Weatherby.

Don't forget the H&R Handi-Rifle. I own one with a heavy barrel in .243 and IMHO it rocks!

Hmmmm too many other good choices left Browning, Ruger and CZ come to mind the three I listed would actually boil down to which one was available if I had the cash in hand.

You can't go wrong with a remington. I have a 700 vls in a 22-250. It shoots like a dream. I know 4 other guys who have the vls and they all shoot under 1/2 moas at 100yards.

Well Savage has lost its permit to ship to Canada and it will take two or more months for it to be resolved. Went for the Tikka T3 hunter, a bit more money but what the hey.

I just this weekend bought a Remington 700 bdl in the synthetic stock for 300 dollars new. 243 of course. It is not a varmit gun but shoots excellent. I was getting 1.5 inch groups from a sporter 22 inch barrel on the first box of ammo. I expect it to improve as I develop a handload it likes.

I'd vote for the Remington 700. Despite my range problems last weekend (which I'm sure were my fault, not the rifle's), I have enjoyed my 700 in .243, and I shoot well with it. So much so that when my husband was looking for a new .30-06, he went with the 700 in that caliber.

Any of the ones you're looking at in .243 will be fine, but the Remington has done real well for me.

I voted for Remington and would also choose Savage. No experience with the other brands that you mentioned. Kimber is probably excellent, but pricey. Tikka might be nice, just don't know.
