I orderd a new 18" barrel for one of my 870's and it is very hard to chamber a shell. i have found the problem and it is the opening of the chamber is very sharp and the hull is getting shaved by this. I can chamber and eject a shell without firing it and you can see small bits of plastic and the the hull has rough places on it.

Now heres the question can I take some fine emery cloth or a smooth trigger wetstone around the opening to dull it up, has anyone done this?

Certainly. Just as long as you don't start grinding away excessive amounts of the chamber, this should work well.

What you want is a slight bevel of the sharp edges.

I'd use a crockstick to SLIGHTLY radius that sharp edge just enough to fix this. Go easy....

Is this a common thing, and I am guessing that shooting a few thundred rounds usually dulls the sharp edges?

It SHOULDN'T be common, but Express models ARE Remington's "budget" model where corners are cut to hold the price down.

Since steel is a lot harder than plastic, it'd take a while before the sharp edges wore smooth.
