I received this in a email yesterday from the North American Hunting Club.

Are you chomping at the bit to take your new AR-15 deer hunting? Do you wish it fired a bigger bullet with a bit more power? Now, you can ... and it will. Bill Wilson at Wilson Combat works some serious magic on ARs.

By necking a .223 Rem. case up to .30 caliber, Bill has created a new cartridge he considers his favorite around the ranch. Just by changing the barrel, it will work in any AR originally chambered for the .223 Rem. Now, for only $250, you can whack wild hogs and beat on big bucks with your AR ... and it will hit just as hard and shoot flatter than that antique .30-30 Win. lever gun.

Bill's new cartridge—the 7.62x40 WT—allows you to transform your AR from a varmint buster to a big game crusher, while still keeping recoil to a minimum.

Be different this deer season, and have the coolest cartridge in ca

Wow that's some over-the-top marketing.

This is a new cartridge that is very similar to 300 AAC Blackout which, in turn, is very similar to 300 Whisper. The latter two are both optimized for subsonic use, but the Wilson 7.62x40 seems to be optimized for supersonic hunting use. The 7.62x40 is rated at about 100-150fps faster with 123gr bullets than the Blackout. Otherwise it is very similar, to the point that it might (?) be possible to fire Blackout ammo in the 7.62x40 chamber, although I don't know.

Hmm, cool but, get a different AR upper with a new barrel and you got two different calibers to switch between. Now the real problem is getting new ammo.

The OP stated:

Seems like it shouldn't be a problem for a reloader to accomplish this.

From experience, there's a GOOD reason that 300 whisper and 300 blackout both use .221 fireball cases as the parent cartridge. If you want to use .223 brass for faster 30 cal loads, a crimp would be a good idea. Throwing away the brass after one firing would also be a good idea. The primer pockets get loose very fast.
