Well, I just put a deposit at my Local GS, on a Pre 64 Model 70 featherweight! From a very good friend! condition is probably 95-98%. Its in really really good shape! bluing is really nice with only one small area of wear, and the stock has less than expected wear. 1960 manufacture. The only thing its missing at all, is the hood for the front sight. Its awesome! i cannot wait to bring it home!

The barrel is just the same. Even the bolt is tight! Previous owners stated it had a very very low round count! I opted to not pick up the Leupold vx2 3-9, as I’ll do something else with it. I actually want to try and harvest a deer with irons sights and with this classic piece of American gun history!

Wow..... What a beautiful classic. " The Rifleman's Rifle"........ Buddy of mine had a pre-64 featherweight in .308 from the mid-1950's IIRC. I was in love with it and was alongside him to witness it in action on Wyoming pronghorn and mule deer back in 2006. He had it up for sale a couple years ago and I hesitated just a little too long because you know what nice ones bring these days. Still kicking myself on that one. Congrats on yours.

Thank you! I won’t be able to actually get it till roughly feb

Nice! I have one bedded in a Fajen stock. Topped off with a vintage Redfield 4x with a german post and cross hair reticle. LOVE IT!

Congrats on the Pre'64 hope it is the first of many more for your rack. They are a class act and you can't have too many.

congrats

My younger brother has one in .308. It has a 4-digit serial number and is THE gun pictured on the cover of A GunWorld magazine. circa 1954 iirc.

He also hunts with it. He lives in LasVegas and hunts Nevada, Utah, and Colorado, Alabama and Georgia.
It's taken mule deer, whitetail, elk, pronghorn, and even porcupine. Would have taken a pig if he hadn't froze when the herd bolted. His wears a Leupold 3-9.

I have a:
1949 270
1953 308
1953 30-06 [I converted to 25-06]
1956 30-06 [I converted to 270]
1968 7mmRM

I love to get the histories. The 1956 30-06 was owned by a guy named Bert that living in Alaska. When he died his nephew, Austin, sold me the rifle and told me about his late uncle who used the rifle to kill:

6 moose
10 mountain goats
6 sheep
109 Sitka Black tailed deer
16 black bear
2 caribou

Then he died, and his nephew sold it to me and I converted it.

I have shot 9 mule deer with it.
4 in 2008 and 5 in 2009

To convert a 64 M70, I like to use the PTG extractor relief cutter on the barrel breech.

I like to hear M-70 stories too. One of my favorites is about my wife's Pre-War M-70 .375 H&H in attached photos. It was a gift to her from the Doc who delivered her and said she was the most beautiful baby he ever delivered. He had hunted with the rifle in Canada and other big game areas and when we got married he gave it to her and said she would need it for all the hunting trips we had planned. .. If I may, how much did you pay for the unscoped rifle ? I am sell off my collection which includes one like that and want to know before it goes on Gun Broker .

I'm paying $1800 for this rifle. considering its condition, and estimated round count by previous/original owner, i figured it was worth well more!

I have only bought two pre 64s in the last year at a pawn shop; $675 + tax and $700+ tax.
That is the bottom end, 30-06 drilled for peep sight and stock shortened for recoil pad, or any of that sort of thing.
All original, unusual cartridge, and minty, you could pay $4k. I have not paid the $4k, but I have seen it asked.

Thank you Dups. That is a little more than I see them actually selling for on gun broker , but yours appears a cherry.

I plan on selling my 59 un monkeied with 30-06 Feather weight in about 90% for $1500 with an older 3-9 Leupold in Warne Maxi (factory holes) QD mounts.. Will be sad to see it go, liked 180 grain Silver Tip old style WW ammo and would print right at an inch at 100 yards with it- all ways !

honestly i'm probably over paying. However, i know previous owner personally. This rifle has been a safe queen for probably 20 years. before that it was sighted in for hunting season, zero checked, and very rarely used. so i'm sure its got less than 200 rounds through it. Bore looks like new. If i were making a purchase off gun broker, i'd pay a significant ammount less, and i would be very weary of it. However this one i'm very comfortable purchasing!
